Ivacy VPN (2021) Review + Guide

Mi na Globalwatchonline.com tested and tried all different providers for you, read our comprehensive IvacyVPN review and learn everything about this service, we are sure that once you’re done reading you will know if this provider suits you.

Who and what is IvacyVPN

Over the course of this review, I will be going over everything, including their (Ivacy) pricing, features, speed, cons, and pros. Headquartered in the weird and wonderful island-nation of Singapore, Ivacy VPN has been protecting their customer’s online experiences since early 2007. Despite their impressive decade-plus tenure in the VPN marketplace, Ivacy is still a relatively unknown brand.

  • Operated under the umbrella of PMG Private Limited, Ivacy is an understandably secretive company, and this surprises me. In fact, in 2010, it was Ivacy’s technology team that was responsible for unveiling the revolutionary concept of split tunneling, a technology which allows users to decide what traffic is sent through an ISP and what traffic is protected by their VPN.

So with all of this in mind, I decided to review Ivacy for myself to see whether or not this relatively unknown VPN could be one of the best VPN services. For this review, we put IPVanish through its paces. We thoroughly tested its speed, performance, ease of use, and ability to access popular streaming services like Netflix. The short answer? Yes, IPVanish is able to unblock Netflix. It can also unblock popular services like Vudu, HBO Go, and YouTube and can be used as a VPN for Kodi.

Koje su prednosti i prednosti?

  • Works on all major platforms
  • Allows torrenting on dedicated servers
  • Unblocks Netflix, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer
  • Kill-switch and split tunneling
  • 3,500 servers in 100 locations
  • Servers optimized for Kodi

Good Speeds for IvacyVPN

In order to ensure the accuracy of this review, I conducted a couple of simple speed tests at speedtest.net to determine just how quick Ivacy really is. Here are the results of the IvacyVPN Download and Upload speed test

US Server (New York)

  • Ping: 115ms
  • Download: 45.86mbps
  • Upload: 43.92mbps

EU Server (Amsterdam)

  • Ping: 42ms
  • Download: 53.04mbps
  • Upload: 25.39mbps

Asia Server (Hong Kong)

  • Ping: 261ms
  • Download: Test Failed
  • Upload: Test Failed

UK Server (London)

  • Ping: 50ms
  • Download: 53.24mbps
  • Upload: 33.36mbps

As always take these speed tests with a grain of salt since they rely on so many different variables and can change from person to person. However, we have tested over 70+ VPNs for this site so we have a baseline that we can compare every VPN against. All in all, Ivacy’s speeds are solidly middle of the road.

Although I was disappointed to find that their Asia servers were completely unusable, at 53.0 Mbps for an EU server, Ivacy’s speeds are up to par with competitors like TorGuard and Buffered. If you are a seasoned VPN user, Ivacy’s speeds are nothing to get excited about, and if you are in need of a faster VPN, you should check out our reviews of Surfshark review i ExpressVPN review.

A True No Logging Policy

One of my biggest pet peeves when reviewing any VPN provider is a falsely advertised “Zero Logging” policy, and unfortunately, this trend seems to become more and more pervasive by the day. In fact, this issue has become so pronounced within the VPN industry, that I no longer trust any VPN provider’s claims of “Keeping no logs” until I have read every word in their privacy policy.

  • While I was reviewing Ivacy’s VPN, I did indeed scour through the fine print in great detail and quite frankly. I was shocked. Ivacy actually upholds it’s advertised zero-logging policy, and they do it better than just about any other VPN that I have reviewed. That’s it. No traffic logs, no bandwidth logs, and no duration logs. Just pure, unadulterated privacy.

Good Customer Service

I’ll be the first person to admit it. I did not have high hopes about Ivacy’s customer service. Forgive my cynicism, but after reviewing more than 70 VPNs, I’ve learned to have exceptionally low expectations when reviewing the customer service offered by a cheap VPN service.

After all, companies have a limited number of resources. If they offer high-quality services at a budget-friendly price (as Ivacy does) it’s typically safe to assume that they had to cut back on another area of their business in order to do so. And the customer support team is typically the first casualty…

  • However, with Ivacy, I was pleasantly surprised to find that their customer service agents were quick to respond and extremely helpful. Although I would like to see more detailed and thorough responses from their agents, I’m hard-pressed to complain considering the rapid response times and efficient support that I received.
  • I submitted several other queries designed to gauge the knowledge and efficacy of the team (all of them were submitted at similar times) and all of these queries were answered in a similarly timely (and brief) manner.

To ensure that my experience was an accurate representation of their customer support team, I also reviewed their social media accounts to see how well they handled other customer complaints and questions. Again, I was impressed to find that their team was extremely effective and knowledgeable and nearly every issue that arose was the fault of a customer and not Ivacy.

Available Protocols: OpenVPN, SSTP, PPTP, L2TP and IKev2

Someone turns their computer into a network access point, and gives is a real-enough sounding name (often imitating popular, well-known ones like “T-Mobile” for instance). When you connect, you’re actually connecting through their computer. And they now will gain access to all of the information you used to log in, as well as your browsing activity.

  • That means when you pull out a credit card or run a few quick transactions, all of that data gets logged because the connection is unencrypted. Unfortunately, this example of ‘WiFi’ eavesdropping is one of the most common (and oldest) tricks in the ‘man-in-the-middle’ attack playbook.

Now compare that to a normal web session on a legitimate network. You pull up a bank’s website and all of the activities during your entire session will be encrypted by an SSL certificate. These create special keys on each access point so that no one else can monitor or gain access to what’s happening after you get on the site.

  • The same underlying SSL technology is used to power OpenVPN, which is the go-to protocol for all major (and legitimate) VPN providers. Ivacy is no different, defaulting to OpenVPN whenever possible. If you’re unable to use OpenVPN for some reason (like device restrictions), Ivacy also has other common protocol options available, including PPTP, SSTP, L2TP, and IKEv2.
  • Some of these other protocols, like IPv6 for example, have known security vulnerabilities. In this case, though, Ivacy attempts to fix this issue by sending that data and traffic through a VPN anyway.

256-Bit Encryption

Public WiFi networks are some of the most common places that people can gain access to your online activities. Even hotel and airport WiFi’s, which you would think were rock-solid, are often susceptible to attacks. (In some cases, these institutions are the worst offenders – tracking every single action you make on their networks and often selling your information to third parties.) Many public networks though are susceptible to bad behavior. Hackers can run automated systems on these networks to monitor and attempt to ‘brute-force’ their way into your accounts.

  1. Brute force attacks will target a specific website’s login page and attempt to crack the username and password combinations by running through endless variations until they eventually land on the right one. They test one letter or number at a time and continue cycling through, adding more digits until they eventually figure out how to gain access.
  2. These attacks are the culprits in some of the most common you hear about every single day on the news. For example, brute force attacks are one of the leading ways people gain access to WordPress websites (which is the single biggest platform on the internet).
  3. They’re also the method that’s commonly used to hack into celebrity iCloud accounts and leak private, photos and videos. Brute force attacks work well when encryption is weak.
  4. In other words, when there are only so many possible combinations of letters and numbers, it’s only a matter of time it takes to break. Generally speaking, the weaker the encryption, the faster it can be cracked.

All encryptions can eventually be cracked. But if they’re strong enough, it might take decades (or centuries) to do it. That’s why 256-bit encryption is considered the strongest possible available on the market today. It’s so strong, that it’s used by government agencies and the cream of the crop security companies.Ivacy prides itself on their use of 256-bit encryption, which means your connection through them should be nearly impossible to hack.

Ivacy Cons

Singapore Has Been Confirmed as a “Five Eyes” Partner. The term “Five Eyes” is not something that is commonly understood or discussed in the general public… And with good reason. When Edward Snowden executed his now-notorious security breach, he published more than 1.5 million classified NSA documents.

  • Among the information included in this leak was a document revealing the details of a security operation known as “The Five Eyes”, an information and resource sharing partnership between the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand that allows each government to locate and spy on “anyone, anywhere, anytime.”
  • In other words, the Five Eyes partnership is a privacy advocate’s worst nightmare. By tapping fiber optics cables at more than 20 locations worldwide, the governments in question can access personal data and the real-time location of just about any person they so choose.

Unfortunately for Ivacy, other leaked documents have shown that South Korea and Singapore (the location of their headquarters) are partners in the “Five Eyes Agreement” and regularly provide these other governments with access to sensitive information and resources. While this shouldn’t have any direct effect on Ivacy’s security since they keep 0 logs, you should still be cognizant of the political landscape surrounding the company’s headquarters.

No TOR or Proxy Compatibility

While this is a minor annoyance for most VPN users, I was disappointed to see that Ivacy is not compatible with the TOR network or any other third party proxies. Although this will not affect the VPN experience for most users, the added layers of security provided by TOR and other proxies can quite literally save your life in some of the more Draconian countries. For example, TOR compatibility is included in NordVPN (here’s a review).

30-Day Money Back Guarantee

One of the only problems that I had with Ivacy’s pricing package is that they are not up-front about the stipulations for their 30-day money-back guarantee. It’s a pretty common practice for a VPN provider to set limitations on how many gigabytes of service you can use before you forfeit your money-back guarantee. However, in most instance, this is very well advertised and the customer understands the limitations of the guarantee.

After doing some digging through their various policies and legal disclaimers, here’s how the money-back guarantee actually works. You claim for a refund within 30 days (or 7 days for a 1-month plan) of your subscription date, one thing is for sure, this is not a Free VPN.

  • Your account has not already been suspended by Ivacy for breach of any clause mentioned in the terms of service
  • You have not consumed more than 500MB of bandwidth, which includes both upload and download activity using Ivacy; or you have not exceeded 30 sessions i.e. the number of times you connected to Ivacy services, whichever occurs first
  • You previously have not claimed a refund under this policy. You have not used BitCoin, BitPay, Coin Payments or Paymentwall as your payment method Personally, I think this is a pretty fair agreement.
  • However, I also think that the clauses in their refund policy should be stated much more obviously. I mean really… How often do customers take the time to review the ToS before making a purchase? You, me, and the folks over at Ivacy all know that the answer to that question is a resounding “Never!”

Although I won’t blame Ivacy of intentionally lying to their user base, I will say that the conditions surrounding their money-back guarantee should be spelled out on their sales page, not buried in their legal disclaimers.

Not All Netflix Servers Work Well

Simply put: Ivacy doesn’t work with Netflix. And they have no intentions of reversing that stance anytime soon. To confirm, we tested the following servers. Each one let us down:

  • Ujedinjene države
  • Kanada
  • Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo
  • Nizozemska

Ivacy has even confirmed on their site, that “as the situation stands, internet users will have to cope up with Netflix’s ban policy over the VPN.” So it seems like this won’t change anytime soon. Fortunately, we have confirmed a handful of VPNs are still valiantly trying. Check out our top list of Netflix VPNs to the best of the best.

Do We Recommend Ivacy?

At the end of the day, Ivacy is a quality VPN with acceptable speeds, unbeatable prices, and high-quality customer service. They offer an easy to use platform with an abundance of settings and features to play with and while they are far from perfect, the “Pros” in this case, far outweigh the “Cons”.

  • The Singapore-based VPN comes with everything you need: good security and encryption, a kill-switch, servers in 100 locations, access to Netflix and BBC iPlayer, and dedicated servers for torrenting and Kodi.
  • In addition, Ivacy provides excellent customer service that’s available 24/7.
  • The new (lower!) prices give users the options of subscribing for different periods of time, and a 7 and 30-day money-back guarantee (depending on whether you buy the one-month or year plan).

Who and what is IPVanish?

US-based VPN provider IPVanish claims to be “The World’s Best VPN Service“. While they have an abundance of endorsements and sponsorships and offer an admittedly feature-rich product, the question remains, is this well known provider still one of the VPN providers you should choose?

  • In this review, I’ll be providing you with a detailed answer to that question. I will be taking an unbiased look at IPVanish, analyzing everything from the company’s background, services, features, pricing, and more.
  • Let’s get started. Founded in 1999 under the umbrella of Mudhook Marketing (located in US, Florida), IP Vanish has quickly earned a reputation as one of the top VPN providers in the marketplace. 1,300+ servers (and counting) across more than 75 different countries (primarily located in Europe and North America).

Their VPN services are compatible with nearly every device and OS imaginable and they have dedicated apps for Windows, Mac OS VPN, Android, Fire TV and IOS. For the more tech-savvy users, they also allow customers to manually setup an IPVanish configuration on Window’s phones, Ubuntu, ChromeBook, and your routers. IPVanish also supports all major VPN protocols and even allows users access to the download-free SOCKS5 web proxy.

Koje su prednosti i prednosti?

  • Dedicated Apps for all platforms
  • Does not keep logs
  • 256-bit encryption
  • Huge list of 75 countries
  • Shared-VPN connections to make traffic untraceable
  • Lots of protocol choice

The speeds of IPVanish servers

I ran a few speed test on the IPVanish servers and here is what I came up with (I’m using 100 Mbps Internet connection within EU). If you are looking for the most fast VPN in the world, read this guide.

US Server (New York)

  • Ping: 133ms
  • Download: 34.71 Mbps
  • Upload: 24.72 Mbps

EU Server (Amsterdam)

  • Ping: 38ms
  • Download: 82.67 Mbps
  • Upload: 43.19 Mbps

Asia Server (Hong Kong)

  • Ping: 341ms
  • Download: 7.61 Mbps
  • Upload: 5.88 Mbps

UK Server (London)

  • Ping: 56ms
  • Download: 80.25 Mbps
  • Upload: 42.09 Mbps

IPVanish offers respectable download and upload speeds. When connected from EU to EU they only throttled my speed by 18%. However,  it’s hard to justify the cost of their service when you compare the US speeds that they offer with the speeds of other, less expensive services. For example, the download speeds of IPVanish (on the U.S. based servers) were slower than NordVPN and SaferVPN (read review), which both cost less than $4/month.

Decent Working App

Installing their app was a pretty smooth straightforward process (although, annoyingly, I had to restart my computer afterward). Upon launching the software, it was instantly apparent that IPVanish offers an intuitive and easy-to-use interface. They now also offer a kill switch for Windows and Mac users. They make it easy for you to find everything you need and give you a plethora of settings and options to toy around with.

IPVanish usability

The only complaint I have with their interface is that they offer no instructions on setting up and using the SOCKS5 proxy from the account portal.

IPVanish SOCKS5 Proxy

While this isn’t a huge deal and can easily be resolved with a quick Google search (or by reviewing IPVanish’s article on the topic), with the SOCKS5 proxy being such a huge selling point, you would think that they would streamline the setup process as much as possible.

No Traffic Logs

If you read through the fine print in the privacy policy of many VPN services, you might be shocked to realize that their advertised “Anonymous Browsing Experience” isn’t so anonymous after all.

In fact, if you choose the wrong provider, your personal data and information could be stored on one of the company’s internal servers and the privacy policy (which you agreed to) gives them the rights to use that data for a whatever purposes they see fit.

  • Unfortunately, we have mixed feelings about IPVanish’s “no logs” policy. They’ve been in the news in the past for logging and handing over data for a user to Homeland Security, despite claiming that they keep no logs.
  • That doesn’t give users who use their service full trust in them. This happened in 2016, though. They’ve since been taken over by a new company, called StackPath, that promises full assurance of privacy and security.
  • We have a strict policy against the collection of both connection and activity logs. We will never store the metadata about your VPN session or information about how you used the service. So while you are never truly anonymous online, IPVanish is one of the few VPNs that gets you about as close to total anonymity as possible.

Strong Encryption (AES-256)

IPVanish relies on the same encryption protocol, AES-256, that is used by many of the world’s leading security agencies and government organizations. With the rapidly increasing number of brute force cyber attacks, this is a huge plus. In December of 2016, WordFence, a WordPress security plugin, noticed a dramatic increase in the number of brute force attacks being executed against WordPress websites (which power more than 25% of the internet).

  • In fact, things got so bad that, at one point, there were more than 30,000 unique attacking IPs per day! While this statistic should serve as a wakeup call to many website owners, it also should not be a cause for alarm.
  • By surfing the web with an AES-256 encrypted VPN (like IPVanish) your IP address and all personal data will be protected from hackers to the point that your data is virtually Brute Force Proof. That also means that you can get around IP specific censorship leveraged by schools, employers, and governments.

Download Free SOCKS5 Web Proxy

Like most VPN providers, IPVanish allows users access to several different protocols including the default OpenVPN as well as PPTP, and L2TP. While OpenVPN’s are generally the recommended protocol since they offer fast speeds that don’t sacrifice privacy or security, they do come with a downside.

  • That downside is that you have to download a client directly to your device in order to access the unique certificate required to establish a secure connection. Luckily, there is an alternative.
  • IPVanish gives their customers access to a special proxy server protocol known as SOCKS or Socket Security. This protocol allows you to enjoy the same benefits of a standard VPN without having to download any software to any of your devices. This means that you can hide your IP address, hide personal information, and enjoy faster performance all without downloading an intrusive third-party tool.

While this provides a huge service to certain customers (especially individuals looking to circumvent censorship laws or other IP-related restrictions), it should be noted that the speed and download-free surfing comes at a cost.

The reason a SOCKS proxy is able to achieve faster speeds than a traditional VPN is that it doesn’t use the same encryption standards. In other words, it doesn’t offer the same privacy and security protocols that prevent hackers, cyber-criminals, and governments from accessing your personal information.

While the proxy does an admiral job of obfuscating your location, it does little-to-no good when it comes to protecting your privacy and security. Even though this is a “Pro” for IPVanish and certainly a unique protocol to offer, be cautious and educate yourself about the SOCKS proxy before taking advantage of this feature.

Torrenting is Allowed

With IPVanish, not only is torrenting (P2P) allowed. It’s blatantly encouraged. Unlike many VPN providers, IPVanish has no qualms about customers using their service to Torrent freely and privately. Their carefree attitude towards torrenting might anger some anti-piracy advocates, however, for the average VPN user, this feature is a major bonus. If you are looking for the perfect VPN for torrenting, this brand is the perfect partner.

Ten Device Connection Limit

One of my favorite “Features” of IPVanish is that they allow you to simultaneously connect up to 10 devices. Most VPN services, including premium companies like ExpressVPN, limit your simultaneous connections to 3 devices. This might not seem like a big deal to some of you, however, for those of you with family members or spouses, buying a second license can be a huge frustration and unwanted expense.

However, with IPVanish’s generous 10-device limit, you, your spouse, and even your kids can browse safely and securely, all at the same time.

Some Servers Unblock Netflix

IPVanish doesn’t specifically state on their site if they’ll work with Netflix or not. Most VPN providers have begun steering clear of official statements over the past few years, because the video-streaming giant now employs one of the most sophisticated VPN-detection systems to date.

But regardless of their official stance, we still test them. We connect to different country servers, fire up Netflix, and try to stream something. Anything! Results didn’t start out well with IPVanish because the first three servers we tried didn’t work:

  1. Kanada
  2. Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo
  3. Nizozemska

However, the fourth time was the charm! We connected to a U.S. server in Chicago and were able to bypass detection with the United States: Chicago server. The only issue was that the server lagged a bit. So if you need a VPN that works with Netflix, read this.

TOR Compatibility

TOR or The Orion Network is a network that encrypts and relays your traffic information across several servers ensuring that it is difficult (read: impossible) to track your real-time location.

For those of you who need serious security measures to fight against government surveillance or censorship laws, TOR allows you to create a second layer of security with an existing VPN to maximize your privacy and ensure that your location and identity remains private.

IPVanish Cons

One of the greatest annoyances when using a VPN is that the industry’s customer service is notoriously unreliable. Sadly, IPVanish propagates this stereotype… and then some. While their advertisements and marketing promise that users will have access to 24/7/365 support – it’s just not true. For starters, they don’t even have a live chat option (which makes me wonder how in the world they thought that they could advertise 24/7 live support?)

This means that if you ever did need to get instant help, you wouldn’t be able to. And when you do send in a support ticket, you don’t receive an immediate (or even remotely fast) response. To fully understand how their support works I submitted 1 simple question and here’s (auto) their response:

IPVanish support

1-2 days to reply? So much for 24/7/365 support. In fact, after submitting my support ticket Friday afternoon, I didn’t receive a full reply from the support team until Monday. That’s more than 60 hours of time during which I received no support. Certainly not a plus in my book. Although they do have support center and knowledge base which is quite helpful, it doesn’t pardon the fact that they blatantly lie in their advertising and provide you with customer service that is a far cry from what you expect going in.

  • Do you think that you might be in need of instant support for your VPN service?
  • Then don’t bother with IPVanish… unless your definition of “instant” is 48 hours+.

IPVanish cijene

One of the great things about IPVanish is that they don’t dilute their services by offering the traditional “Tiered Packages”. There is no “IPVanish Bronze” or “IPVanish Platinum”. Instead, every customer receives exactly the same service with the only difference being the length of time for which they have access to that service.

Pricing tiers for IPVanish VPN

Since I’ve never actually seen them offering their services for $11.99 a month, I will just chalk the advertised “17%/month savings” up to clever marketing and say that this plan is the equivalent of:

  • $7.50 per month
  • $90 per year

I have, however, seen them offer this monthly service for $10 per month. It’s good to see that them offer this 25% discount off their former pricing. We hope that it sticks around. Unlike most VPN providers (and much to our surprise), IPVanish does not offer the traditional 6-month pricing option. In its place they offer a quarterly 3-month pricing plan billed four times per year at $20.24.

This boils down to:

  • $6.75 per month
  • $81 per year

Most VPN providers tier their costs, meanin the more time you commit for the lower the monthly price comes out to. Anyone looking for the best deal possible on IPVanish would want to opt for their one year commitment.

At only $58.49, the plan equates to:

  • $4.87 per month
  • $58.49 per year

IPVanish also offers a 7-day money back guarantee on every plan and allow you to pay with just about any method you desire (including credit card, PayPal and even bitcoin for anonymous payments).

IPVanish payment methods

While these prices are nowhere near as expensive as some of their more premium competitors (I’m looking at you ExpressVPN), they are still a far cry from “Budget Friendly”.

This fact is painfully illustrated when you take a look at the pricing plans offered by PIA and many other cheaper VPNs; you’ll quickly realize that you can find other high-quality VPN providers for less than half the price of IPVanish.

  • I do appreciate the all-inclusive pricing and love the simplicity of their offer, but frankly, I think that IPVanish is doing their company and their clients a disservice by not offering a steeper discount on their yearly plan. However, for you to truly determine whether or not IPVanish is worth the investment, you first need to know what you get in return for your investment.

Do We Recommend IPVanish?

The answer is… It depends on what you are looking for. IPVanish provides a reliable service at a reasonable price and while it doesn’t offer anything groundbreaking or truly exceptional, it does offer several features (like the SOCKS5 protocol) that make it appealing to a certain demographic of VPN users.

However, for most VPN buyers, I would be hard-pressed to recommend IPVanish (if for no other reason) due to the quality of their competition. IPVanish isn’t a bad VPN, but the shoddy customer service, compatibility issues, and the simple fact that you can find better offers for cheaper like NordVPNSurfshark ili Cyberghost.

IPVanish offers almost everything you need, including excellent encryption, a wide choice of server locations and thousands of IP addresses. The ability to switch between IP addresses whenever you want is a very nice feature that works well.

The price is fine, especially at the time of discount offers, but it’s definately not jeftino. We recommend this VPN provider for anyone who wants to bypass online restrictions or limitations of a country. For people who want to improve their online privacy or hide their browsing and downloading habits, we recommend other VPN providers.

  • Fast top-class provider
  • No artificial limits on connection speed

Does IPVanish Keep Logs?

Today, IPVanish claims to keep a strict no-logs policy. This was not the case during a data-logging scandal in 2016. IPVanish complied with the Department of Homeland Security’s request for user information. The individual was involved in a child abuse and pornography investigation, and ultimately, this information helped the investigation. However, their compliance proved that they kept logs.

It is important to remember that the IPVanish provider is based in the US, and therefore subject to the 5/9/14 Eyes’ jurisdiction. This means that they can be summoned to turn over any records they have on an individual to the government.

But is this a security threat to you or me? Well, no, mostly because this issue has been resolved. IPVanish was acquired by StackPath in 2017, and its new management guarantees that they do not store any logs.

Does IPVanish Have an Ad Blocker?

IPVanish does not have a built-in ad blocker. However, you can use third party ad blockers while connected to IPVanish servers.

Does IPVanish Work in China?

IPVanish is blocked by the Great Firewall of China.

Does IPVanish Have a Free Version?

IPVanish offers a free 7-day trial to users who sign up using its iOS app.

Is IPVanish Compatible with My Device?

IPVanish offers apps for all major platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Fire TV, Windows Phone, Linux, and Chromebook. You can even install it on your router for network-wide protection. As an added bonus, it supports light/dark mode features too. That way you can match it to your mobile device preferences.

ProtonVPN (2021) Review + Guide

Mi na Globalwatchonline.com tested and tried all different providers for you, read our comprehensive ProtonVPN review and learn everything about this service, we are sure that once you’re done reading you will know if this provider suits you.

Who and what is ProtonVPN?

In this review, I’ll test out their service and see how it performs vs. other free VPN providers. In short, it’s not that bad at all. ProtonVPN comes from the same CERN Scientist and Harvard Physics PhD brains behind ProtonMail, the world’s largest encrypted email network. So they’ve already created a free-to-paid, encrypted internet privacy service in one space.

  • Surely they can do it in the VPN space, too? That’s what we’re here to find out. Over the past few months, we’ve been comprehensively testing their OpenVPN protocol, encryption connection standards, speed, security, pricing, and more.
  • ProtonVPN benefits from its partnership with the well-known, secure email service ProtonMail. The two companies are legally separated for security reasons, but ProtonVPN still draws heavily on existing technology and security from the email service.

However, fans of ProtonMail will be happy to hear that ProtonVPN also has a similar focus on security, privacy, and total anonymity. Its biggest strengths include an attractive and user-friendly interface, robust security, and a strict no-logs policy. Downsides include unimpressive speeds, a lack of live chat support, and fairly pricey long-term subscriptions, if you want to compare all these factors, read the best VPN guide to find the perfect provider.

Koje su prednosti i prednosti?

  • No log files
  • Free version available
  • Good team and vision
  • Works with Netflix for now
  • Industry standard protocol & encryption

ProtonVPN is secure and safe

ProtonVPN was founded on the back of security experts. So you know the protocol and encryption standards will be top-notch. They also don’t disappoint in a few other key areas, like customer service and a rock-solid connection.

Exceptional Security & Privacy Standards

ProtonVPN comes equipped with OpenVPN (UDP/TCP) and IKEv2 as its protocol, with the super-secure AES-256 encryption. This is bank-grade, state-of-the-art encryption standards. If you are going to suffer a hack, it won’t be because they broke through this encryption. Because it’s never been done. Instead, most hackers will cut their losses and go after other methods of breaking in, like guessing your password reminders.

Strict No-Logging Policy

We’ve analyzed 118 VPN logging policies over the past few years. This is often boring, painstaking work. But it’s important, this is because pouring through this many terms and privacy policies has taught us where VPNs like to bury their privacy bodies.

  • For example, we’ve found that 7% of VPNs commonly log your connections data. And more than 30% of VPNs have suspicious (not straightforward) logging policy. These ones often use vague, technical jargon or legal terms to allow for ‘gray’ areas that might come back to haunt you.
  • Now, ProtonVPN has a solid reputation based on their past work. But we’ve also confirmed that when they say “no logging,” you can actually trust it.

Good Customer Support

Ticket-based support systems usually make us cringe. That’s because we’ve all experienced the  several day delay between each email, which requires a week long back-and-forth process to answer even the simplest of questions.

  • That initial thought flashed through my head when I laid eyes on Proton’s support options. Reluctantly, I filled out the form with a few simple questions and hit “Send.” However, a reply hit my inbox within around 24 hours. And to my surprise, it wasn’t just a straight link to a knowledge base article on their site, either. It just needed to be relatively fast and direct. And that’s what it was. A pretty good experience all around.

Leak-Free Connection

DNS and Web-RTC leaks can accidentally expose your true IP address. These are typically caused by connection conflicts that open a teeny, tiny hole for your data to seep through. Sounds minor. But it isn’t. It allows your ISP, governments, and even two-bit hackers to spot you from a mile (or more) away.

  • So it completely undermines your use of a VPN. All without you even realizing it. ProtonVPN’s connection came out leak free in every test we ran. We also ran their install files through VirusTotal.com and found them to be completely free of malicious software.

One Netflix Server Worked With ProtonVPN

ProtonVPN says on their site that Netflix will work on certain servers. The trick, I guess, is figuring out which ones. A lot of VPNs make that bold claim, but very few of them can actually back it up. What’s more, the VPNs that are successful in unblocking Netflix may not maintain that achievement for very long. That’s because Netflix is constantly trying to stop VPNs in their tracks, blocking access to its geo-locked content.

  • All Netflix content is unique to the area in which it is accessed. Netflix has certain deals in place with content providers to bring different shows and movies to different areas of the globe. If you were in the United States, your Netflix list would look very different from someone trying to watch in The Netherlands.

To stop the unwanted flow of its restricted content, Netflix unleashed a powerful VPN detection and blocking system upon the internet. It swept through the VPN world like a tidal wave, knocking scores of platforms off of the world’s largest streaming service. However, despite this purge, there are a number of VPNs that still have some success in unblocking Netflix’s attempts to keep them out, so ProtonVPN isn’t the best VPN for Netflix.

  • When we first reviewed ProtonVPN, we tested five servers. They were in the UK, Canada, The Netherlands, and two servers in the US. At the time, we found that only one out of the five worked, and it was the server in The Netherlands. We tested this out again in August 2019, and once more, one out of five servers connected to the Netflix service. However, it was a different server.
  • The UK server, once a recipient of the dreaded Netflix black screen of doom, worked perfectly when I logged in. The Netherlands server, once our only beacon of hope in the war against Netflix bans, was sadly not working when we tested it out this time. ProtonVPN gets listed under Pros for having one success. But practically speaking, just keep in mind that your options might be kinda limited here, even for the VPN use of Kodi.

Easy to Install and Use

When you’re choosing a VPN provider, the last thing you want is to open up some overly complicated system that you have to be a computer scientist in order to understand. That’s why the best VPNs are the simplest ones.

  • While ProtonVPN might not look super user friendly at first, looks can be deceiving. Despite a longer than average download time, ProtonVPN proved to be a simple to install system, that had a great ease of use once you get accustomed to its very busy dashboard.
  • After signing up for ProtonVPN, you’re taken to the client dashboard. From there, you’ll be able to download the platform of your choice.

Download Screen for ProtonVPN

After selecting the Windows download, I was still taken to yet another download page to actually select the Windows client and start the installation. This didn’t take up a lot of time but it was still strange that I had to select which program to download only to be taken to another page where I once again had to select which program to download.

Once that was over, the ProtonVPN software began to download. Typically VPN software takes between 10 and 30 seconds to download on my computer. This one took quite a bit longer, and I found myself waiting for nearly two minutes. Again, this is not the end of the world, and once that was downloaded the installation went through almost instantly.

Download Client for ProtonVPN

The sign in screen was plain and simple, which is always good when using a VPN. You want to be able to efficiently sign in without having to navigate through various options. Enter your username and password, and you’ll be connected. You can also set up your VPN client to remember your login information (not recommended on a shared computer) or to start up automatically with Windows.

ProtonVPN Sign in Screen

When you login for the first time, ProtonVPN takes an extra step that I haven’t seen many VPNs do before. It offers you a tour of its interface. This is particularly helpful, since as you’ll see momentarily, it can be a little intimidating when you see if for the first time.

One of them is the ability to create profiles, allowing you to save your settings in order to go back to them whenever you want. This is great for users who want to go right to their favorite Netflix server or one that was particularly fast. Once you’re connected to a server, there will be a green link in the upper left that says “Set as Profile.” Click on that and you can hold onto any of the servers that you enjoy without having to sift through the list to find them again.

ProtonVPN Tour

It also talks about the ProtonVPN Secure Core, which lets you add additional levels of security onto your browsing session. It should be noted that this service is only available to subscribers who purchase ProtonVPN’s Plus or Visionary plans.

ProtonVPN Tour 2

Once all of that was over I clicked on “Quick Connect” in the upper lefthand corner and was instantly connected to the fastest server they had.

ProtonVPN Client

While this interface might look like a NORAD computer screen, it’s actually a lot more simple than it appears. Everything you need is on the lefthand side. That includes the button to connect and disconnect, the server list, saved profiles, and the ability to activate Secure Core.

  • Another fun feature is the fact that the flag of the country you choose appears in the upper left. The map, which takes up the majority of this massive interface, mostly exists to show you where on the globe your signal is traveling to.
  • It also monitors some of your other information like speed, volume, and the length of your session. This is important information that a lot of VPNs leave out.

Switching servers was a breeze. You find the server country you want from the list on the left, click on it, and you’ll automatically be connected to the best server in that region. You can also expand the list country by country to select specific servers. All in all, despite the longer than average setup time, this is a VPN that is easy to use and effective.

ProtonVPN Cons

ProtonVPN gets high marks for their attention to security detail. However, there are still a few drawbacks we uncovered. Let’s take a look at each of them in-depth.

They are Located in Switzerland

Switzerland has a history of being a ‘neutral’ country. One that protects the privacy of its citizens and doesn’t like to get involved in domestic conflicts. And all of that is true. Swiss laws do protect privacy. Generally speaking. The issue, though, is that Switzerland is also a cooperating member of the extended Eyes security alliance.

  • This is a worldwide agreement that essentially helps government agencies to spy on each others citizens in the name of worldwide safety. I don’t mean that in a conspiracy-theorist way. This has already been happening for decades.
  • So a Swiss-based location means you’re mostly good. Your privacy is mostly safe. The good news is that ProtonVPN doesn’t keep a lot of their customer data on file. But just keep in the back of their mind that their government might force them to cooperate.

Server Speeds are Too Slow for the Price

Speed is the great equaliser. All else being similar — pricing, features, security protocols, etc. — you’re going to go with the fastest option. Because speed makes all things possible (streaming, torrent downloads, or just a dozen tabs up while you’re bouncing around between browsing sessions).

  • We use SpeedTest.net to get a reading of our benchmark, non-VPN internet connection. We got 97 Mbps download and 53 Mbps upload at the time of this review. Then, we connect to a few different ProtonVPN servers. We try to select random ones around the world to get a fair, unbiased view.
  • Finally, we calculate the differences and come up with a combined score that gets ranked against all of the other reviews we’ve previously done. Sound good? Check out each server test in detail now to see if this is one of the most fast VPN’s in the world.

U.S. Servers (East & West)

ProtonVPN’s U.S. servers started extremely slow. The download speed, especially, would make most torrenting activities slow to a crawl.

  • Ping: 190 ms
  • Download: 24.6 Mbps (75% slower)
  • Upload: 36.4 Mbps (31% slower)

EU Servers (Switzerland)

The EU servers, on the other hand, didn’t disappoint. This probably also had something to do with our closer proximity to this servers. Even something as simple as physical distance between you and the connected server can impact performance. But credit where credits due.

  • Ping: 66ms
  • Download: 54.46 Mbps (44% slower)
  • Upload: 37.86 Mbps (29% slower)

Asia Servers (Hong Kong)

We thought the U.S. server speeds were bad. Until we saw the Asian ones out of Hong Kong. 85% slower across the board.

  • Ping: 317 ms
  • Download: 16 Mbps (84% slower)
  • Upload: 6.4 Mbps (88% slower)

UK Servers

And last but not least, a UK server feel somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately, it wasn’t on the ‘good’ side of the middle.

  • Ping: 46ms
  • Download: 52 Mbps (46% slower)
  • Upload: 47 Mbps (11% slower)

These results were disappointing across the board. Consistent, yes. But consistently slow is not good.

Limited Device Compatibility

The best VPNs we’ve reviewed all provide pre-built apps for every device imaginable. This way, all you have to do is point and click. No technical experience required. No manual labor needed. ProtonVPN provides pre-built apps for Mac, Windows, Linux, and Android devices.

  • Unfortunately, that’s all they provide. Any users of TOR will find that this VPN is sadly incompatible with it. The last time I reviewed ProtonVPN, they did not have a native app for iOS clients.

Now in 2021, they now have a native iOS app. But even worse, it means there’s no pre-built option for smart TVs or gaming consoles. While there was no support for routers the last time I reviewed ProtonVPN, they now support installing their VPN on DD-WRT, AsusWRT, and Tomato routers. They’ve got 345 servers in 32 countries, which could be a problem for people who look into VPNs for torrenting.

Limited Torrenting Available

Unfortunatley, ProtonVPN doesn’t allow unlimited torrenting. It’s not allowed at all on free plans. The reasoning is that “P2P would increase the load on our servers due to torrenting and this would put more pressure on us, ultimately not allowing us to subsidise the free accounts from the paid ones.” That’s understandable.

It is allowed on paid ones, but only on certain servers. Again, the reasoning is that they channel P2P traffic through neutral “safe countries.” However, they also take this moment to bring up Swiss law: “File sharing is only permitted for personal, non-commercial use.” So yes, they allow it. But there are several restrictions which might make it impractical for you.

Limited Protocols (OpenVPN Only)

This last one is on the border. ProtonVPN only offers the OpenVPN protocol. Technically speaking, this is a GREAT thing. It’s the state-of-the-art industry standard. Almost everyone, everywhere should use ONLY use OpenVPN. So why is this showing up under the Cons section? Because not everyone has the choice of only using this protocol option.

  • Many older devices, or even some less expensive new ones like some Chromebooks, don’t offer OpenVPN support just yet. Instead, you’ll have to connect through a different (albeit, less-desirable) protocol like L2TP or PPTP.
  • These other options aren’t nearly as secure. And in most cases you wouldn’t want to use them. You don’t always have that choice. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. And for that reason, ProtonVPN might not work for large cross-section of potential customers.

ProtonVPN Pricing

ProtonVPN has four plans to choose from, with optional discounts for paying annually. So the prices below INCLUDE the annual ~20% discount.

Free: $0/month

Yes, Proton has a free VPN. But yes, it’s also pretty bare bones. The service comes with only three server locations: The Netherlands, USA, and Japan. It doesn’t come with any extra features. But it does help you unlock a free seven-day trial of their paid plans. So that might be a good way to dip your toe into ProtonVPN’s waters without spending a single cent.

Basic: $4/month

Proton’s Basic plan is a marginal upgrade on the free one to be honest. You do get access to all countries, but not Plus, Secure, or Tor servers. Your speed access is “high” but not the “highest.” Plus, you only can connect two simultaneous devices. So kinda a bummer to be honest. Skip over this option.

Plus: $8/month

Proton’s Plus plan increases your connection limitation up to five devices. Speed is the “highest,” and you get access to Plus, Secure Core, and Tor servers. This is probably the only plan you should go with to be honest.

The fourth plan, Visionary, is kinda the same as the Plus, but with a cross-sell for their ProtonMail offering. So that’s also a decent option at $24/month (paid annual) if you were already considering both encrypted options. Otherwise, you can pay for all of these plans with either credit card or PayPal. Nothing else (cash, bitcoin, etc.) from what we’ve seen.

ProtonVPN comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, you only get a prorated amount of the “unused portion.” In other words, if you use it for 10 days, you’ll get a refund for 20 days worth. That’s not a great refund policy compared to others, like CyberGhost, which offers a full “no questions asked” money-back guarantee. Refunds in the original currency or payment method you used will be given, too.

Do We Recommend ProtonVPN?

No, we don’t. ProtonVPN features an awesome connection with the highest security considerations. Their customer service was good and Netflix even worked on one server. Unfortunately, it’s a few other areas that let it down in the end, one things is for sure, it’s better then using a free VPN.

A Switzerland home base is generally a good thing for privacy. But they are cooperative with other aggressive government agencies around the world. Honestly, the server speeds were not good. Device options are limited. And the pricing, even with a 20% annual discount, is still on the high end for what you’re getting in return. There are just so many better options available, with the same connection strength, faster performance, and more devices, for far less.

ProtonVPN is a fairly new player in VPN land, but has already built a strong reputation. They handle the security of their servers very well and offer many options to strengthen it. Secure Core ensures that premium users are even more secure. In addition, the VPN is decently priced, provides access to Netflix and the ability to download torrents, and is fairly straightforward and easy.

  • ProtonVPN only works with highly secure protocols
  • Log policy: only connection logs
  • ProtonVPN’s apps are open source
  • ProtonVPN has a built-in kill switch and the option to automatically connect to another VPN server
  • To create an account you must provide an email address and payment information

Does ProtonVPN Keep Logs?

Located in privacy-friendly Switzerland, ProtonVPN has a strong focus on delivering total anonymity to users. The privacy policy is very transparent and straightforward.

ProtonVPN follows a strict no-logging policy that is backed up by Swiss law, which doesn’t require retention of any information about your connection, session bandwidth, IP address, or online activity. Because ProtonVPN doesn’t keep any user logs, it can’t be forced to hand over identifying information to any third parties.

If you’re looking for an even stronger guarantee of anonymity, you can take advantage of the Tor over VPN service, which will direct your traffic through the Tor network without you having to download the Tor browser.

Does ProtonVPN Have an Ad Blocker?

ProtonVPN offers NetShield to its Plus and Visionary users and comes with three levels of protection. You can set it to block malware, trackers, and ads, malware only, or nothing at all. Whenever you change the settings, you’ll need to also reconnect the VPN.

Does ProtonVPN Work in China?

ProtonVPN can be a good choice if you are looking to bypass China’s tough censorship. There are multiple server locations near China, including Hong Kong, that get decent speeds. However, some server locations may be blocked. To avoid trial and error, you can email the support team to request a list of recommended servers for use in China.

Is ProtonVPN Compatible with My Device?

ProtonVPN offers good device compatibility, with user-friendly native apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. All apps are open source and have undergone an independent audit, and you can use OpenVPN in the beta version of iOS. You can also find detailed manual configuration guides for Linux, and its newly improved Linux command line is the beta stage of testing.

ProtonVPN recently released an app for ChromeOS as well, it’s available for any Chromebook that supports Android apps.

The number of simultaneous devices supported depends on your subscription tier. Free plans allow only one device, Basic plans allow two simultaneous devices, Plus plans allow five simultaneous devices, and Visionary plans allow 10 simultaneous devices.

VyprVPN (2021) Review + Guide

Mi na Globalwatchonline.com tested and tried all different providers for you, read our comprehensive VyprVPN review and learn everything about this service, we are sure that once you’re done reading you will know if this provider suits you.

Who and what is VyprVPN?

VyprVPN is a popular VPN service created by Switzerland-based Golden Frog. This VPN has worked hard to establish itself as a trusted provider and advocate of internet privacy. The provider has also been taking steps to improve its reliability, security, and quality of service based on customer requests.

  • However, does VyprVPN really make the cut? Here’s a preview: when it comes to privacy, geoblocking, and price, VyprVPN makes the cut. It can unblock Netflix, BBC iPlayer and Hulu, but where it falters is speed (read on for specifics). Speedier VPNs like ExpressVPN could be a better choice for streaming and P2P sites.
  • Switzerland based company Golden Frog (the parent company of VyprVPN) has been an integral player in the fight for online privacy since the inception of the internet. According to their website, the company was founded in response to the Room 641a incident where the NSA was illegally surveilling citizens by tapping the AT&T network cables.

Allegedly, Golden Frog filed a formal complaint with the FCC to try and expose the issue to the public, but was ignored. So they decided to take matters into their own hands. Lead by Ron and Carolyn Yokubaitis (relatives), Golden Frog and their 20+ employees have been on the frontlines of the battle for internet privacy in recent years and have built a strong reputation as one of the best VPN providers on the web.

Koje su prednosti i prednosti?

  • Bypasses the great firewall of China

Politika sječe

With such a long and rich history of fighting for internet security and individual privacy rights, you would imagine that VyprVPN would provide a strict “Zero Logs” policy. Initially, this wasn’t quite the case. VyprVPN used to keep the following information for 30 days after your last session:

  • VyprVPN IP address used by the user
  • Connection start and stop time
  • Total number of bytes used

However, when we checked their policy again in March 2019 we found that they had changed their approach and we can now confirm that they truly keep no logs. It’s also important to consider that, even though Switzerland resides outside of the five, nine, and fourteen eyes countries, their data retention laws and internet privacy policies aren’t as favorable as many people claim and they could pose as a potential issue for some users.

Is VyprVPN Fast?

With a download speed of 74.48 Mbps VyprVPN slowed my connection by a little bit less than 24% which is more than acceptable. However, some of their other servers didn’t fare quite as well and they certainly don’t belong to the most fast VPN providers in 2021.

US Server (New York)

  • Ping: 131ms
  • Download: 51.09 Mbps
  • Upload: 3.17 Mbps

EU Server (Amsterdam)

  • Ping: 42ms
  • Download: 74.48 Mbps
  • Upload: 35.88 Mbps

Asia Server (Hong Kong)

  • Ping: 355ms
  • Download: 54.29 Mbps
  • Upload: 8.22 Mbps

UK Server (London)

  • Ping: 53ms
  • Download: 70.46 Mbps
  • Upload: 37.47 Mbps

VyprVPN server speed is allright

As you can see, VyprVPN’s EU servers are highly optimized and provide their users with rapid download and upload speeds. Their U.S. servers, on the other hand, leave something to be desired.  Although VyprVPN performs just as well as it always has, there have been a number of new additions to the VPN marketplace that have knocked VyprVPN out of the ranking for the fastest VPNs.

  • The lackluster speeds of their U.S. servers have caused VyprVPN to drop from the 4th fastest VPN down to the 18th (which is a far fall indeed). With companies like Private Tunnel and ExpressVPN performing considerably faster than VyprVPN, Golden Frog will have their work cut out for them in the coming months to bring their U.S. servers back up to par and compete with the other major players in the VPN marketplace.

Does VyprVPN Work with Netflix?

If you’re buying a VPN to bypass geoblocks on popular streaming services like Netflix, VyprVPN is a great choice. The provider has been working on a big overhaul of their streaming service in an attempt to improve the VPN’s access to popular streaming sites in different parts of the world. In fact, it offers support for 45+ streaming libraries giving you access to countless movies and TV shows. At the moment this is one of the best Netflix VPN’s of the world.

VyprVPN’s proprietary Chameleon™ technology prevents Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), which helps it escape geo-restrictions and VPN bans on popular streaming sites. We were able to access US Netflix on multiple servers without a problem. VyprVPN also gave us excellent speeds on the US servers, which is perfect for HD streaming. The VPN was also able to successfully access other popular US streaming sites like Hulu and Amazon Prime.

  • VyprVPN’s UK server was able to access Netflix UK, ITV, Eurosport, and BBC iPlayer during our tests.
  • Its Canadian server allowed us to stream Netflix Canada, DAZN, MuchTV, and NHL.TV.
  • VyprVPN has made some recent upgrades to its German server. We were able to unblock Netflix Germany, DAZN, Eurosport, RTL, Sky Go Germany, ARD, ZDF, and Pro 7.

With other server locations, we had mostly positive results, but also found room for improvement. The majority of countries we tested were able to access Netflix, but some popular locations like France were caught by the VPN ban.

Is Torrenting Allowed?

Although VyprVPN and Golden Frog have kept fairly quiet regarding their opinion on P2P file sharing and torrenting, I was able to find the following statement on their help center. Heck, VyprVPN even allows their customers to use BitTorrent clients and claim that they don’t actively monitor any of your network activity while using this VPN for torrenting in 2021.

  • When I dug a little deeper I found that many GoldenFrog clients were having their account suspended due to copyright infringement notices and the support team responded to these suspensions with the following statement.
  • So even though you can technically torrent files with VyprVPN it’s important to note that if you break any copyright laws, you will likely have your account canceled or suspended (and unfortunately, there are no refunds).

What Devices Are Supported?

VyprVPN is compatible with all major devices including Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and Linux. In addition to these basic devices, VyprVPN also allows you to anonymize your router, Apple TV, and Android TV. You can also use this provider in combination with a VPN router.

VyprVPN compatibility

At this time, it does not appear that VyprVPN offers browser extensions for Google Chrome, Safari, or Internet Explorer, but no one uses that anyways right. In addition, VyprVPN is not compatible with TOR (the Orion Router) or any other third party proxies so if you’re looking to add an extra layer of anonymity and security to your VPN experience, you might need to look at some other providers, especially if you want to use this VPN for Kodi.

Is VyprVPN Easy To Use?

One of the areas where VyprVPN really shines is in its usability…

  1. I’ve tested out dozens of VPNs and of the 70+ applications that I’ve used, VyprVPN is by far one of the simplest and smoothest to use.
  2. After clicking a few buttons and agreeing to their Terms of Service, VyprVPN is instantly downloaded to your device and you’re brought to their easy-to-use home interface.
  3. From here, it’s easy to access the settings menu and quickly change your connection, tunneling protocol, or DNS settings.

VyprVPN app settings

All in all, VyprVPN provides their customers with a simple and easy to use application that allows for effortless navigation and efficiency.

With more than 700+ servers spread across 70+ countries, VyprVPN offers their customers access to one of the largest networks and server parks that has ever been reviewed on this site. In addition to this impressive figure, they are also one of the few VPN companies that write and host their own servers and DNS.

  • This means that they own the ENTIRE network that you are using while connected to their VPN client and they are the only party who has any access to your private information.
  • Furthermore, they offer a fantastic killswitch feature which allows you to rest easy knowing that, even if you get disconnected from one of their servers (a problem I never encountered), all of your activities will be immediately shut down, preventing you or your information from being compromised.

VyprVPN Customer Service

In the past, we have had complaints about VyprVPN’s lack of live chat service and slow response times. However, we were pleased with the improvements that VyprVPN has made to their customer service.

  • You can now contact support through an email request form or their 24/7 live chat service. We had positive experiences with the VyprVPN customer support team on both platforms. Our email request through the website was answered within 20 minutes, and we got a response from the live chat service within several minutes. Both methods are responsive, polite, and helpful.
  • The VyprVPN website also provides some great resources to help with common issues. You can find an FAQ page, troubleshooting guides, set up tutorials, and some general information about VPNs and online privacy.

VyprVPN and WireGuard

WireGuard is one of the newest protocols in the VPN world and is now available on all VyprVPN apps. WireGuard is an open-source protocol that provides VPN users with the highest level of security and privacy as possible. It also helps to increase speeds. Its features include a much slimmer codebase – which mean VyprVPN apps are faster and more responsive. WireGuard also includes much stronger encryption. All the features of WireGuard equate to a faster, safer, and more reliable VPN.

VyprVPN pricing

Unlike most of the big name VPNs on the market, VyprVPN doesn’t offer a “One Size Fits All” plan. Instead, they offer two different subscriptions, basic and premium, to buy a VyprVPN.

The Basic Plan

  • $60.00/year when you select the yearly plan ($5.00/mo)
  • $9.95/mo for a monthly subscription
  • 3 simultaneous connections
  • Unlimited data usage

The Premium Plan

  • $80.00/year when billed annually ($6.67/mo)
  • $12.95/mo for a monthly subscription
  • 5 simultaneous connections
  • VyprVPN Cloud Included
  • Chameleon Included

I’m not a fan of VPNs that offer basic vs. premium pricing plans but, for all intents and purposes, VyprVPN charges a fair price for their large server park, fast download speeds, and Netflix compatibility. Since all plans come with a 3-day free trial (without bandwidth limit), VyprVPN does not offer refunds under any circumstances so be sure to test out their service as thoroughly as possible before committing to a yearly plan. Luckily, canceling your VyprVPN trial or subscription is actually pretty simple, just follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to your control panel (URL)
  2. Click “Accounts” and then “Cancel Service”
  3. Answer why you want to cancel
  4. VyprVPN account cancellation

Considering how many VPN providers offer shady refund terms and hidden charges, it’s refreshing to see that VyprVPN is straightforward and transparent about the entire payment process. One final note to consider is that VyprVPN does not offer any anonymous payment options. You can only pay with a debit or credit card, PayPal, or AliPay.Sorry Bitcoin fans, if you want to pay anonymously, VyprVPN is not the service for you.

Do We Recommend VyprVPN?

VyprVPN is a great VPN provider that offers their customers access to top of the line security features, a vast server park, Netflix compatibility and decent customer service. However, their lack of anonymous payment options and legal concerns around torrenting files can pose as a serious issue for some users. In that case we would recommend another provider like Surfshark ili Private Internet Access VPN.

When you consider just how many excellent VPNs are in the same price range it’s hard to justify purchasing a VyprVPN subscription over one of their faster or more feature rich competitors. At the end of the day, if your primary concern is security and anonymity, VyprVPN is one of the best services on the market, it’s not jeftino though, and certainly not for free.

  • It’s clear that VyprVPN is a great VPN provider that is committed to constantly improving their quality of service. We were impressed with the recent changes that the provider has made to their performance, privacy policy, and customer service.
  • After these recent changes, we can now recommend VyprVPN for anyone looking for online privacy, torrenting support, and the ability to bypass censorship and streaming geo-restrictions.

Is VyprVPN Good for Torrenting?

VyprVPN has never banned torrenting, but in the past it wasn’t strongly encouraged. However, some recent policy changes have made this VPN much more torrent-friendly. The provider’s recent transition to a strict no-log policy means that VyprVPN is now able to offer a much stronger claim of privacy and anonymity than in the past — especially since the policy has been independently audited. With no usage or connection logs on record, VyprVPN is unable to provide any information in response to DMCA requests. We will discuss this policy change in more detail below.

Is VyprVPN Safe?

VyprVPN protects your internet connection with secure AES 256-bit encryption. The VPN also offers additional protection with extra security features like an automatic kill switch and a NAT Firewall to block malware. One of VyprVPN’s best features is its proprietary Chameleon™ technology. With VyprVPN, not only do you get a choice of OpenVPN, WireGuard, and L2TP/IPsec protocols, but you can also select the unique Chameleon™ protocol. Chameleon™ offers all the security benefits of OpenVPN, but also scrambles your metadata to prevent DPI, VPN blocking, and throttling. That makes it useful at overcoming restrictions in censored regions such as China. We detected no leaks during our security tests, which is good news for VyprVPN’s protection.

Does VyprVPN Keep Logs?

No, VyprVPN has a strict no-log policy. It also hired independent cybersecurity company Leviathan Security to perform a thorough privacy audit. The results of the audit confirmed that VyprVPN does not collect any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) through its VPN service. With this move for transparency, VyprVPN became the first publicly audited No-Log VPN Provider. In addition to this great privacy policy, VyprVPN is incorporated outside the jurisdiction of the 5/9/14-Eyes Alliance in privacy-friendly Switzerland and also adheres to the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles to provide maximum transparency when it comes to customer data.

Does VyprVPN Work in China?

If you’re looking for a VPN that can give you access to the free web during a trip to China, VyprVPN is an excellent choice. The VPN’s proprietary Chameleon™ technology provides all of OpenVPN’s security but also scrambles your metadata to prevent your VPN use from being identified. This protocol is great for bypassing restrictive censorship in China and other countries that don’t allow free access to the internet. In early 2021, VyprVPN introduced an extension of this technology, Chameleon™ with Smart IP. It works by changing the server IP periodically throughout your session without dropping the connection. This makes the VPN even harder for governments to detect.

Is VyprVPN Compatible with my Device?

VyprVPN is compatible with all major platforms. The VPN’s features are similar across platforms. You can connect up to 3 simultaneous devices with a basic plan, and 5 simultaneous devices with a premium subscription. The provider offers a generous number of dedicated apps, and there are also set up guides to manually configure the VPN on a variety of other platforms. VyprVPN is fully compatible with the following devices:

  • Windows
  • MacOS
  • Android
  • iOS
  • Linux
  • QNAP
  • Blackphone
  • Smart TV
  • Anonabox
  • Tomato, DD-WRT, OpenWRT, and ASUSWRT routers
  • Boxee
  • Synology NAS
  • Blackberry

Who and what is CactusVPN?

CactusVPN is a VPN provider that offers fast, secure and anonymous internet connections through 39 servers in 22 different countries. We were disappointed to see that it can’t unblock Netflix, though. It uses seven different VPN protocols: L2TP/IPSec, OpenVPN, SSTP, SoftEther, PPTP, IKEv2, and WireGuard. It provides strong data encryption and high speed connections, as well as unlimited bandwidth use. Peer-to-peer and torrent file sharing are allows on the Germany, Netherlands and Romania servers. CactusVPN also offers a SmartDNS option, which allows you to unblock a ton of popular streaming services and websites.

  • CactusVPN is a Moldova-based VPN service from CactusVPN Ltd. It claims to offer its users anonymous browsing, hidden IP address to bypass geo-restrictions and top data protection OpenVPN tunneling protocol with 128-bit AES encryption.
  • Moldova is a little Eastern European country, located next to Romania and Ukraine. On the plus side, it’s a privacy-friendly place. But on the downside, CactusVPN has very small server network with only 23 servers in 14 countries.
  • CactusVPN is easy to configure and connect. It includes an apps killer feature, and is very user-friendly, even for beginners. The provider’s website makes it even easier to use this VPN service, as it contains many guides, tutorials and FAQs to help users. It is compatible with several operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, and Linux.

This means it can be used on most desktop and laptop computers, as well as on most tablets and smartphones. It also works on routers, Apple TV, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and other devices. Multiple devices can be used in the same account simultaneously, as long as each is connected to a different server. Regardless of which plan you choose, you get access to all 39 servers. CactusVPN also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on all of its plans. Want to compare this provider? Collects Zero Logs

CactusVPN starts strong with a no-laughing-matter logging policy. The follow it up with a local jurisdiction outside any pesky security agreements. And they’ve doubled-down by supporting up to six protocols and working across a variety of platforms, including the Tor browser, Smart TVs, routers, and games consoles. They even sweeten the deal with a kill switch and DNS leak protection. Take a look for yourself.

  • CactusVPN does not collect logs on anything. And when we say “anything,” we mean NOTHING. This is surprisingly rare in a world filled with shady VPNs. They won’t hesitate to declare “No Logging,” on their site, only to bury the grim details somewhere in a Privacy Policy or Terms of Service.

But in this case, CactusVPN means it. They won’t track browsing history, connection logs, DNS logs, or any other traffic logs. Of course, they’ll need to keep payment records. However, if they have no connection logs to match them to, you should be golden.

Outside Any Security Agreements, Best Privacy Policy

Moldova is located outside any data-sharing intelligence agreements. Here’s the thing: VPNs can mask all types of legally-questionable behavior online. But the companies behind each can’t always protect their users when the local authorities come calling.

  • Most won’t hesitate to hand over data when pressured by governments. And if their home country is located inside one of the Eyes alliances, that data will also be turned over to most civilized countries around the world. Moldova doesn’t play that game, though.
  • Any other government request for your records is going to be politely or impolitely — rebuffed. This, on top of a legitimate ‘no logs’ policy, implies that CactusVPN has your back.

Supports Six VPN Protocols, AES-128 Encryption, and a Kill Switch

CactusVPN supports OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2, SSTP, SoftEther, and PPTP. OpenVPN will generally be your go-to. But the other protocol options come in handy for specific devices (like IKEv2 on iOS), or outdated, sluggish connections. Most VPN’s we’ve reviewed offer some mix of these six. However, one slight difference from the rest is that CactusVPN has opted to only offer AES-128 encryption.

  • Technically speaking, this is less secure than the beefier AES-256 option. Their logic is that the difference is slim. And they kinda have a point, practically speaking. Most hacks won’t be through your encryption.
  • They’ll try to go after simple errors or user negligence, first. If you’re on an older device, this lower encryption will also come in handy because AES-256 puts extra strain on the computer’s CPU).

CactusVPN also adds a built-in kill switch to their VPN clients. But you’ll have to switch it on, first. It’s not enabled by default, so you’ll need to go into the app’s settings and manually switch it on to protect yourself from accidental leaks when your Internet connection drops.

Simple Setup with No Lags or Complaints

There’s not much to say about the CactusVPN client. And that’s a good thing believe it or not. No major lags, crashes, or other complaints while using it.

  1. You’ll need to start at the Services page, then look for a link that says “Set up CactusVPN.”
  3. Download the install file and within a few seconds, the client appears:
  4. Login with your customer account details and customize your server location preferences.
  5. By default, they are sorted by country. But you can also sort them by speed.
  6. Then choose your server and click the green “Connect” button. That’s it.

The only annoying thing about the whole process is that in order to change servers, you need to disconnect from the current one. So make sure you have that kill switch enabled, first, before disconnecting to switch around. Interestingly, they have also offered a related service called SmartDNS. Cactus provides a test so you can figure out which is the right choice for you. More on this extra feature down below.

Works on Tons of Platforms

  • It’s pretty standard for most VPNs to support Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android devices. But those aren’t the only ways you connect to the Internet today. And the problem is that if your VPN provider doesn’t make a ready-made client for each unique platform, it’ll require technical expertise or lots of troubleshooting to finagle a workaround. Thankfully, CactusVPN has mercy.
  • Their service is compatible on everything from the Amazon Fire TV to Linux Ubuntu, Chromebooks, Boxee Box, routers, games consoles, and other Smart TVs by Apple or Samsung. Geez, that’s a lot! After that long list, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that CactusVPN also works with the Tor browser. You can even connect to five devices simultaneously. (Or, with the help of a router, unlimited.)

Customer Support Is Fast, Friendly, & Professional

A flawless product can be derailed by one bad customer service experience. You’re going to be left with a sour taste in your mouth if the company can’t step up to the plate and help when it matters most. That’s exactly why we test each and every VPN’s customer service quality, response time, and overall friendliness. CactusVPN also offers live chat.

  • However, I decided to try their email support: I sent an email over with a few general questions. At this point, most companies will take around a day to get back to us. The fastest times we’ve seen clock in somewhere around a few hours.
  • Incredibly, it only took CactusVPN four minutes to offer a custom reply. You know, from like an actual human being. I even tried to trick them with a few follow-up email replies. But each time, it only took a few minutes for them to answer.

CactusVPN Cons

I’ll be honest, we didn’t know what to expect with little-known CactusVPN. I’d never really heard of them before trying out there service. But the initial experience was pretty encouraging. Unfortunately, there were a few issues along the way. Each popped up once we started putting them through a few tests. Here are the biggest problems we found.

Slow Server Speeds

Remember the protocols and encryption section above? CactusVPN opts for AES-128, rather than the bigger version, because they claim that it should help performance across the board. In other words, they’re OK with sacrificing a little security for a lot of speed. Want to compare speeds? Then check our guide with the fastest VPN providers at this moment.

Our normal connection speeds clocked in at 97.00 Mbps download and 53.00 Mbps upload. Then, we connect to a few different VPN servers and retest to measure the difference. Here’s what we saw on the CactusVPN U.S. servers:

U.S. Server:

  • Ping: 147
  • Download: 44.99 Mbps (53.6% slower)
  • Upload: 10.21 Mbps (80.7% slower)

The download speed is OK I guess. But the upload speed is incredibly slow. Over 80% slower, at 10.21 Mbps, is practically unusable. The EU server was only able to perform slightly better.

EU Server (Netherlands):

  • Ping: 84
  • Download: 44.28 Mbps (54.4% slower)
  • Upload: 18.54 Mbps (65% slower)

There wasn’t really much of a difference between the US server and the EU server, to be honest. Both were just slow. Normally, you can point to different factors, like server location, as the underlying reason for poor performance. The further away you’re actually sitting from the server you’re trying to connect, the lower connection speed you can expect.Except, when you have servers on two different continents with virtually the same (slow) speed, that’s not a distance issue. That’s a company-wide issue. And it’s troubling, certainly because this isn’t the cheapest VPN.

Not that great with Netflix access

The CactusVPN website claims to be able to unblock dozens and dozens of services. The very first one on their list, as pictured above, is Netflix US. Except for one teensy, tiny problem. I tried accessing Netflix on all four of their U.S. servers. And none of them worked. When I asked customer support about this, they told me that their VPN does not unblock geo-blocked content and that means this isn’t the perfect Netflix streaming VPN at the moment.

  • So if you want that, you need to pay for a separate service called SmartDNS. Boo. Many VPNs throw this stuff in for free, without cross-selling you an additional product. Switching your theoretical location is kinda the whole point of using a VPN. I’d recommend these other VPNs for Netflix, instead, if you’re trying to stream foreign content.

Torrenting is Limited

On the one hand, CactusVPN allows torrenting. Awesome, right? Except, they only allow it on a few selected servers. Why is that bad? Because as we already alluded, the farther you’re physically from a VPN’s server, the slower your connection will be. Currently, the only torrenting-friendly servers are in Europe, that means that this isn’t the perfect VPN for torrenting.

  • Cool if you’re in Europe. Not cool if you’re not. But that’s only the first potential performance issue that will plague your CactusVPN torrenting experience. There are only a handful of torrenting servers available, which means they’re likely to get overcrowded by other people with the same end goal in mind.

Overcrowding often means your server’s resources get spread too thin. And in addition, these torrenting servers are banned on two of their three packages. That means you’ll need to shell out for the most expensive plan to access servers that probably aren’t going to be very quick.

CactusVPN Pricing

CactusVPN starts around $3.49-$4.89 for month-to-month plans (an automatic 30 percent savings). From there, you can save around 40% by prepaying quarterly ($3.03-$4.19 a month). Or you can even cut about 54% by paying annually ($2.27-$3.20 a month).

  1. Their extra SmartDNS product is $4.89 a month, $4.19 a month quarterly, and $3.20 a month annually.
  2. You can pay for these products using your favorite credit or debit card. You can also use a few different third-party payment gateways, like PayPal. Or you can even use Bitcoin and Altcoins. Great for people who are interested in anonymous payments!

Cash is not supported. Neither is waxing the CEO’s car for account credit. They offer a free VPN 24-hour trial period, along with a 30-day money-back guarantee. So you can try out both the VPN software and SmartDNS before ponying up any cash. Nice!

Do We Recommend CactusVPN?

Not really. CactusVPN came in 42nd out of 78 VPNs overall. They were solidly middle-of-the-pack in most areas. We were initially encouraged by their plethora of protocol options and device compatibility. The client worked just as advertised. And their customer support was truly excellent. Their sub-five minute email replies were lightening-quick compared to some competitors that have taken days (if not weeks) to respond to us.

Fast, simple, low cost, and reliable service with some limitations. CactusVPN is a great service for beginners, it is easy to set up, is very fast, and has a great low-cost service. The encryption is reliable, and everything is easy to understand. CactusVPN is great for someone new to VPN services and just wants some added security online, but those who will use more from the internet and expect to use P2P software regularly may find this option to be too restrictive. There are better options available at this point like ExpressVPN NordVPN.

  • But things started sliding quickly when we started up the speed tests. Neither of which was fast, unfortunately. And that’s even accounting for the lower-than-normal encryption standard that’s supposed to improve this very function.
  • Netflix didn’t work at all. And torrenting/P2P compatibility has more rules than a… well, let’s just say there are A LOT. Overall, it’s OK. Not awful, but not awesome, either.

SaferVPN (2021) Review + Guide

Mi na Globalwatchonline.com tested and tried all different providers for you, read our comprehensive SaferVPN review and learn everything about this service, we are sure that once you’re done reading you will know if this provider suits you.

Who and what is SaferVPN?

SaferVPN offers several protocols such as IKEv, PPTP, L2TP, and OpenVPN. While PPTP is great for streaming videos, OpenVPN is good if you need the best security. The prices of SaferVPN are on the cheap side. A two-year package is super jeftino, and they also run discounts from time to time. There are special Business and Enterprise packages for business purposes.

  • Enterprise users get special custom-made packages and cloud-based access. There are apps for all major platforms including a Chrome extension. This is especially good for novice users who don’t know how to use a VPN. SaferVPN also sells routers pre-configured with the VPN settings.
  • The speeds are high, and uploading and downloading files is easy. SaferVPN helps you stay protected from hackers who set up Wi-Fi hotspots near cafes and airports. With over 950 servers in 30 countries, they have a pretty large network and are growing.

They have 24/7 customer support via LiveChat. They also have a ticketing system and are available on social media as well. They reply instantly on chat and within a few minutes on Facebook messaging. SaferVPN has a no-logging policy. Their policy states, “When you use SaferVPN service the only data we collect from you (“VPN Data”) which is as follows:

Koje su prednosti i prednosti?

  • User-friendly platform and interface

Ease of Use

Installation is easy and is available for most devices, including a Chrome extension. You can use the Home plan to connect up to 5 devices simultaneously. The Premium account supports 7 devices at the same time, and the Small Business account supports 10 simultaneous connections. The installation process is simple but if you still need any assistance, the customer care live chat is always available.

  • Using the app is super easy. Just select a location from the list and click on Connect. You can also mark your favorite locations to connect to them quickly. The app lets you select the right VPN protocol and comes with a kill switch that will disconnect you from the Internet any time the VPN connection drops.
  • SaferVPN can be installed on routers a well. And if you want to make things really hassle-free, you can order one of their VPN routers.

They have three models and they all have VPNs configured on them. SaferVPN is fast at the moment. Just to back this up, here are my results without using SaferVPN: While using SaferVPN, I managed to achieve an impressive 79.23 Mbps on an EU server, making SaferVPN one of the fastest VPNs that has ever been reviewed on this site. Here’s a speed test I ran on speedtest.net to ensure the accuracy of this review.

US Server (New York)
  • Ping: 120ms
  • Download: 57.47 Mbps
  • Upload: 23.09 Mbps
EU Server (Amsterdam)
  • Ping: 43ms
  • Download: 79.23 Mbps
  • Upload: 27.78 Mbps

Asia Server (Hong Kong)

  • Ping: 323ms
  • Download: 1.28 Mbps
  • Upload: 0.37 Mbps
UK Server (London)
  • Ping: 46ms
  • Download: 64.38 Mbps
  • Upload: 39.40 Mbps

Seamless Installation and Use

Call me petty, but I absolutely detest VPN providers who force users to restart their devices after installing the VPN client. Luckily, not only is SaferVPN “Restart Free”, they are also one of the simplest and most user-friendly VPNs that I have ever reviewed. About 3 minutes after I purchased their services,  SaferVPN was installed, launched, and protecting my Windows device.

  1. With one of the most straightforward user interfaces I have ever encountered, SaferVPN makes it easy to use their service and you can protect your device with just the click of a button.
  2. They also make it easy to quickly find and optimize your settings and ensure that you have the perfect connection for your specific goals. Although SaferVPN might not be the most feature-rich provider that I’ve ever reviewed, their intuitive design and easy to navigate interface makes using their software an absolute delight.

Effective Customer Service

While it isn’t up to the standard of a company like ExpressVPN, SaferVPN’s customer support definitely exceeded my expectations. Throughout the course of this review, I submitted a handful of queries at different times, some of them genuine, and some of them designed to gauge the efficacy of the support team. Each time, I received a prompt response to my question and was on my way in a matter of minutes.

Here’s one such encounter that I had while trying to figure out if there was a better way to use SaferVPN for torrenting (which we will talk about in the “Cons” section). This whole conversation took place in about 90 seconds and is very indicative of my overall customer service experience. Their team isn’t the most knowledgeable support crew that I’ve ever seen, but they got the job done and they did so in a matter of minutes. However, I should point out that at various points throughout this SaferVPN review, it did seem that they were using an automated software to respond to my customer support inquiries.

  • While I cannot verify this theory, I čini believe that SaferVPN uses robots to answer some of the more common queries that are submitted through their chat feature and, if you look at the above correspondence, you will understand why. The question that I submitted did ne require a client email address for any reason and (considering the fact that they probably receive this question 100 times a day), my support agent should have been able to answer me immediately.
  • Instead, I was asked to provide my email address (less than one second after submitting my question) for no apparent reason making me feel like I was talking to a robot and ne an actual agent. This trend repeated itself across several other support questions and while it amounted to little more than a mild annoyance, I did feel that it was worth mentioning. Considering the overall quality of their customer support and the general friendliness of their team, I’ve got to applaud SaferVPN on their customer service.

Kill Switch and 5 Simultaneous Connections

As I’ve already mentioned, SaferVPN does not offer a particularly feature dense service. And I’m honestly kind of glad that they don’t. After using their VPN for some time, it’s clear to me that they focused almost all of their resources on optimizing their servers, creating an efficient support team, and offering their services at an affordable price.

  • SaferVPN does a few things great whereas most of their competitors do a lot of things acceptably. While many users might be disappointed by the apparent lack of bells and whistles, I feel that SaferVPN offers all of the features that truly matter, including a kill switch* and a generous 5 device simultaneous connection limit.
  • Both of these features are welcomed additions to an already stellar service and I am happy to report that (unlike many of their competitors) SaferVPN’s kill switch feature works exactly as advertised.

Jurisdiction In Israel Is Quite Allright

Headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, the mere location of SaferVPN might make it seem like they’ve lost the game before they even set foot on the field. After all, Israel has become an increasingly tumultuous and politically charged region, making many VPN buyers hesitant about trusting their privacy to a company located at the center of the turmoil. I’ll be the first to admit that when I originally learned about their location, I was pretty nervous about using their services too.

However, after a little bit of light digging, I found that Israel might actually be one of the best jurisdictions for a VPN due to their privacy laws that severely limit the government’s (legal) ability to track and monitor ordinary citizens. Although it’s not ideal for a VPN provider to be headquartered in a country so deeply embedded with the “Five Eyes” information sharing partnership, you can rest easy at night knowing that the law and SaferVPN’s privacy policy (more on that later) is on your side.

Works with Netflix At Most Servers

When I tried connecting to Netflix, SaferVPN seemed to work. Obviously, not all of the servers worked, maybe 30%, since Netflix is actively trying to crack down VPN providers and block their IP’s to respect their geo-restrictions.

Here’s a quick summary:

  • “US streaming” server option worked nicely for me – quick and easy
  • US East server didn’t connect to Netflix at all
  • Canadian server was blocked by Netflix
  • Netherlands server worked nicely
  • UK server was blocked by Netflix

SaferVPN Cons

Although SaferVPN has a lot of great things going for it, their services aren’t perfect and they aren’t for everyone. So before you go smashing that “Buy Now” button, let’s take a quick look at some of the “Cons” of using SaferVPN’s services.

Torrenting is limited

Personally, this was my biggest point of contention with SaferVPN’s services. Considering that they have such a vast collection of servers, you would imagine that they would have spent some time optimizing at least a few of those servers for P2P transfers and bujice

  • However, SaferVPN only has one server out of their collection of 700 that works for these purposes. (Their Netherlands server if you’re wondering). If you plan to use their services solely for torrenting then forget it. There are much better VPNs available for torrenting (here are 7 best). This particular “con” is far from a deal breaker, but it is an issue that I would like to see the company take more seriously.

No logging policy

Something that always bothers me about VPN companies is how misleading their logging policies can be. In fact, if you dig through their privacy policies, it’s not uncommon to find companies that advertise a “Zero Logs” policy while actually logging a metric crap ton of data. Although SaferVPN doesn’t quite fall into that category, they čini track a little bit too much data for my liking.

  • Here is a summary of their logging policy as stated by their privacy policy. As you can see, this isn’t quite the “Zero Logs” policy that we are promised. Although it’s far from ideal, I didn’t find SaferVPN’s logging policy to be particularly worrisome. Would I prefer to use a VPN that doesn’t log any of my information? You bet. Does SaferVPN’s logging policy preclude me from using their services? Not at all.

SaferVPN Doesn’t Work in China

If I ask you to think of the first country where you would need to use a VPN, what comes to mind? Considering their draconian government and oppressive censorship laws, China is one of those countries that you shouldn’t visit without a fully functioning VPN. Unfortunately, according to many third-party sources, SaferVPN’s applications will no longer work while on Chinese soil.

  • And this is a big problem for the company. Expats and travellers all across the world rely on high quality VPN providers (like SaferVPN) to unblock content and keep themselves safe and the fact that their services no longer work in the region is a big blow to their potential customer base.

If you aren’t travelling to China anytime soon, then you can ignore this point, buy SaferVPN, and go along your merry way. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a more premium service like ExpressVPN (read review here). (Please note that this is not something I could directly test since I have not visited China in recent months. If you have a different experience using SaferVPN in the so-called People’s Republic, please let me know in the comments below.)

SaferVPN Pricing

I was astonished to find that their services are actually marketed at an incredibly budget friendly and affordable price. Like, less than $3 a month affordable. However, you’ll need to be ready to pay 2 or 3 years upfront. All of their packages offer the same features and services and the samo difference between them is how long you actually get to use their service. Here’s how it all breaks down.

1 Year: $59.88

  • $4.99 per month
  • $59.88 per year
  • 55% savings

2 Years: $71.77

  • $2.99
  • $35.89 per year
  • 73% savings

Three Years: $82.26

  • $2.29 per month
  • $27.42 per year
  • 80% Savings

Some of you might remember that the last time I reviewed SaferVPN they offered a 14-day money back guarantee and a 24 hour free trial. However, they imati improved their money back guarantee and extended the return window from 14 to 30 days. After scouring their privacy policy and ToS, I am happy to report that SaferVPN, unlike many of their competitors, doesn’t have any surprise “catches” or caveats to their 30-day policy either.

  • Regardless of how many connections you initiate or how many GB of data you download, you can request a full refund for your purchase as long as you do so within 30 days. SaferVPN also allows their users to pay with a Credit Card, PayPal, Bitcoin (anonymous payment) or Paymentwall meaning that, if privacy is an issue, your entire purchase can be made with complete anonymity.

Do We Recommend SaferVPN?

Not really, but they’re not a bad option. Out of the tons of VPNs that have been reviewed on this site, SaferVPN currently is a good VPN, but some of the cons are making them un-recommendable as one of the best VPNs in 2021. They offer fast (and stable) speeds, a seamless interface, and good customer service all at a decent price.

While their services aren’t definitely free of problems and I am eager for the company to improve their Torrenting capacity and logging policy, my experience with SaferVPN was satisfiable. However, you’d be better off using some other VPN providers which we recommend here. For example, NordVPN offers similar features and is also more torrent-friendly.

  • It offers high connection speeds, strong encryption, and excellent customer service. With servers in almost 30 countries, SaferVPN has a large network and works on all devices. With a free trial, money-back guarantee, and access to Netflix and Hulu, there is practically no reason to turn it down.
  • SaferVPN connections are very quick, and prices are very affordable, especially on the two-yearly plan. With the cost coming to about $2 per month, it’s among the cheapest VPNs in the market. For that price, it offers good quality.

Mi na Globalwatchonline.com tested and tried all different providers for you, read our comprehensive HMA review and learn everything about this service, we are sure that once you’re done reading you will know if this provider suits you.

Who and what is Hidemyass VPN?

HMA is a popular VPN provider with a large network of 1,070+ servers in 210+ countries. Some of this VPN’s biggest strengths are its user-friendly interface, impressive speeds, and ability to bypass geoblocks (even Netflix’s!) It’s newest update, HMA Version 5, includes new design features and an auto-generated diagnostics mode.

  • Arguably the most impressive update is its Lightning-mode feature, which connects you to the fastest and closest server automatically.
  • HMA also offers robust security; all apps are protected by military-grade encryption. Mac, Windows, and Android users enjoy additional protection from a smart kill switch.

The VPN also now maintains a no-logs policy for all compatible devices mentioned on its website, and has been verified no-logs by VerSprite.Downsides include the fact that you can’t opt for a month-by-month subscription and the company’s concerning UK headquarters.

Pretty Consistent Server Speeds

HMA’s combined speed tests place them at number 20 out of 78 on our list. That doesn’t sound amazing, but there’s not a lot that separates the people at the top. Here’s how the process works. We like to start by getting a baseline reading of our normal internet connection. At the time of this review, those benchmark speeds without a VPN were 97 Mbps download and 53 Mbps upload. Then, we connect to various VPN servers around the world, and use a reputable third-party tool (SpeedTest.net) to get current performance readings and see if this is a really fast VPN.

US Server (New York)
  • Ping: 113ms
  • Download: 58.98 Mbps (39% slower)
  • Upload: 30.38 Mbps (43% slower)
EU Server (Amsterdam)
  • Ping: 41ms
  • Download: 63.34 Mbps (35% slower)
  • Upload: 50.12 Mbps (6% slower)

Asia Server (Hong Kong)

  • Ping: 284ms
  • Download: 19.25 Mbps (80% slower)
  • Upload: 13.09 Mbps (75% slower)
UK Server (London)
  • Ping: 45ms
  • Download: 64.42 Mbps (34% slower)
  • Upload: 43.30 Mbps (19% slower)

These are pretty decent in reality.  They’re not the fastest by any stretch. But the US, EU, and UK servers were all pretty consistent, which is a good indicator of overall performance across their other servers. Unfortunately, that Asia one tanked and dragged them down a bit. However, if you have a ~75% chance at getting the US, EU, or UK speeds, you’d be happy.

Tons of Available Servers in Most Major Countries

HMA’s servers reach out across all six inhabited continents. That’s over 930 servers in 280 locations across 190 countries. They reach remote destinations like Greenland, cover Africa and the Middle East really well, plus a few in smaller Pacific Islands, too. It seems like the only place they nemoj have a server is Antarctica. Generally speaking, the more available servers, the better.

  • Now, it’s not the end-all, be-all metric. Many VPN companies lie about their servers, in fact. They might lease or rent many of these servers from other companies, thereby ‘artificially’ boosting their total number. But overall, total size is a pretty good indicator for expected performance. It means your chances of finding a less-crowded server are better. As well as one closer to your physical location (which tend to be faster than ones further away).

Good Device Compatibility

HideMyAss! has pre-built apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Linux, and Android devices. It does not support TOR, however. The last time I reviewed HMA!, each account only allows for two different devices to be used at one time.

  • This has changed now, and as at February 2021 you can use your HMA! account with up to 5 simultaneous devices. They also offer a business VPN plan for larger numbers of devices. But it’s also more expensive, too.

Fortunately, HMA! works on routers, too. FlashRouters, in particular, have HMA pre-installed on them, so all you have to do is sign in. That means you can hook up a router, and then connect as many devices imaginable  including smart TVs and gaming consoles. You can protect all of these devices with OpenVPN (256-bit encryption), PPTP and L2TP/IPSec.

  • It’s not the most extensive protocol list we’ve ever seen, but again, it covers the basics well. Most people should just stick with OpenVPN by default, anyway. Unless device limitations force them into L2TP/IPSec. And as a general rule, stay away from PPTP if you can help it.

Easy-to-Use App

The HMA! app is really simple to use. Sign up for an account, grab your install files and authentication code, and you’re good to go. The app is even available in multiple languages, so you’ve got tons of potential options.Simply login with your access credentials, and you’re a click away from connecting. No complexity or technical skills required. One of the more user-friendly apps we’ve tested.

Leak-Free Connection

VPN connections aren’t always as secure as they appear to be. The little green icon on your app looks good to go. But your ISP (and everyone else) can actually see where you’re sitting. We ran HMA! through a series of DNS and WebRTC leak tests to specifically look for this problem, and they came out clean in each one.

  • The app also has a built-in kill switch which helps with security. You can get connected instantly. Or, switch up your location and adjust settings. That’s about it! That’s significant, because many other VPN companies tout huge server lists, only to have them all highly concentrated in North America and Europe — leaving the rest of the world high and dry.

HideMyAss! Pricing

HMA! has three individual price tiers. You get the same exact features with each one. The only difference is a slight price break for longer pre-payments.

  • $11.99 monthly
  • $83.88 every 12 months ($6.99 per month – 42% discount)
  • $119.76 every 24 months ($4.99 per month – 58% discount)

There is a 30-day free trial. You’ll need to enter a valid credit card or PayPal to take advantage. But they also provide a 30-day money-back guarantee, too. So that means you’re looking at ~60 days to test drive their service. That’s one of the best deals you’ll find.

  • The only refund issues are that it has to be the first time you’ve purchased HideMyAss!, and you have to have used less than 10GB of bandwidth. You’ll have to fill out the refund request form. An annual commitment for $6.99/month is not the cheapest VPN out there. But the lengthy test drive period should be worth a few extra bucks.

HideMyAss Cons

HMA! delivers most of the features you’d be looking for. No issues or glaring holes there. Speed is pretty good. Tons of servers. Available for most devices. But it’s what’s under the hood that scares us a little bit. Read on to find out.

Potential Suspicious File in their Install files

A VPN protects you from the prying eyes of aggressive governments, ISPs, or hackers. But who, exactly, protects you from the VPN themselves? That’s the key question we’re trying to help you with in this review. For starters, we take the installation files from every single VPN provider and run them through VirusTotal.com to double-check that they’re not inadvertently infecting your machine. HMA!’s files game back with a suspicious warning. This could be a false positive. However, you might want to test your own install files to make sure they’re clean before downloading to your device. It’s concerning to say the least. But unfortunately, it’s also just the beginning of a few warning signs.

HideMyAss! Collects Log Files

Their logging policy confirms that they hang onto the following data:

  • Username
  • Connect and disconnect timestamps
  • Amount of data transmitted (upload and download)
  • IP address used to connect to the VPN
  • IP address of the VPN server used

Already, that’s not good. You don’t necessarily want your VPN to keep track of your own IP address. Because that still gives them a direct link between online activities and your location (and potentially your identity). But that’s not all they track. They also collect the following:

  • monitor the use of the network for technical purposes and to manage and improve the service;
  • prevent and detect fraud against the service (e.g. credit card fraud);
  • prevent and detect abuse of the network, such as spamming, file sharing or other illicit activity.

Inside Five Eyes Security Alliance

HMA! is owned by Privax Limited, a UK-based organization. First off, the UK is among the most aggressive when it comes to spying on their own citizens. But as a card-carrying member of the Five Eyes security alliance, it means they also have the help of other aggressive governments like the U.S. That’s not good. You already saw why in the last point. When courts come calling, HMA! will hand over your data instantly. They also have a connection to your personal data. Other HMA! users have been complaining about having their accounts suspended for violating Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) statutes.

  • So guess what’s happening? HMA! is definitely logging your activity. They’re willingly sharing it with UK courts. And then those courts are turning around and sharing it with government agencies across the world. Avoiding any illegal activity while using HMA! is a good start.
  • But it’s also not the point. Using a VPN isn’t about concealing illegal acts. It’s about keeping your private information private. And the evidence all says that HMA! fails miserably here. In this case, the VPN tasked to protect you is also the first one to turn you in.

Netflix Streaming and Torrenting Discouraged

HideMyAss! was a very popular choice as a Netflix streaming VPN a few years ago. Unfortunately, that’s not the same case today. We were only able to get one server in Amsterdam to successfully stream content. The others we tried, including New York (U.S.), District of Columbia (U.S.), Montreal and Glasgow all failed miserably.Their site makes bold claims about unblocking content. However, the facts that we saw through actual tests debunk these claims.

And while HMA doesn’t prohibit torrenting, they also aren’t exactly torrent-friendly VPN either. They might not block your torrent client, but users have reported either extra-slow data transfer or outright blocking of torrent servers. DMCA warnings haven’t added to anyone’s confidence level, either. If you’re getting a warning or an account suspension for violating copyright restrictions, it’s probably because of HMA!’s records of your torrenting activity.

The Support Of HMA isn’t that great

HideMyAss!’s support team is available on social media and email. Except, they don’t respond quite as quickly as we like to see here. Many support requests on Twitter are simply referred to the standard channels. There are several ways to get in touch with HMA’s support team if you run into any issues. You can submit a request ticket on the website or reach out through HMA’s 24/7 live chat support. You can also get in contact with the support team through social media.

  1. When I tested HMA’s live chat, I received a response within two minutes. The customer support agent was prompt and helpful. HMA provides other resources on its website, too.
  2. There is a series of guides on topics like cybersecurity, geo-spoofing, and online privacy. These guides are funny and engaging, as well as informative. There are also detailed installation guides, FAQs, a knowledge base, and a community forum.

Do We Recommend HideMyAss!?

No, we don’t. HideMyAss! starts out well. Speed and server numbers were respectable. Plus, they might have the best name of the lot. But in the end, the privacy concerns are just too overwhelming. We’re sure HideMyAss! wants to do the best they can in supporting their customers’ privacy. But combine their past logging activities, infamous court cases, and aggressive jurisdiction are just too much to overlook.

Plus, this affects other activities you might be looking for, like Netflix or Torrenting. Both are basically nonexistent at the moment, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for catching cyber criminals. However, you’re paying a VPN for privacy at the end of the day. HMA! delivers a lot of things. But based on record after record that we’ve seen, privacy isn’t one of them, for that option you can better use ExpressVPNSurfshark ili NordVPN Cyberghost VPN.

  • Fast, user-friendly VPN that is great for streaming and escaping censorship. HMA offers a sleek, powerful service with a user-friendly interface and excellent server speeds. One-click Lightning Connect makes it easy to escape government surveillance and censorship. On the other hand, privacy lovers may not like the fact that HMA is based in a 5/9/14 Eyes Alliance country.

Is HMA free?

HMA offers three pricing plans, each with the same features. As is common with VPNs, HMA’s longer subscription plans offer a better value for your money. The subscriptions are affordable and reasonable for HMA’s quality of service. However, the discounts offered on HMA’s longer plans aren’t as big as those offered by some other high-quality VPNs. HMA also has a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try out the service risk-free. This is a great option if you can’t decide if HMA is the right choice for you.You can pay for HMA through PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and UnionPay.

Is HMA VPN Compatible with my Device?

HMA is compatible with all major platforms. There are native apps for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. HMA also provides user-friendly manual installation guides for Linux and routers. There are a few differences across devices. HMA’s Windows, macOS, and Android apps include a kill switch, IP Refresh, and IP Shuffle. None of these features are available on HMA’s iOS apps.

The Windows app also gives you the ability to choose which apps are covered by the kill switch. The native Android app offers a useful split-tunneling feature. Split-tunneling allows you to choose which parts of your connection you want to protect with the VPN. You can connect up to five simultaneous devices with one HMA subscription.

Is HMA VPN Good for Torrenting?

HMA offers good support for torrenting. P2P traffic is allowed on designated high-speed optimized servers. P2P-enabled servers are clearly listed on the HMA app. You can choose and connect with one click.

Does HMA VPN Have an Adblocker?

HMA does not include an adblocker in its VPN service.

Does HMA VPN Work in China?

Although HMA has worked in China in the past, it does not reliably provide service to customers in China. Many users in China may find that HMA is blocked. HMA has stated that it will continue to look for ways to provide better access to customers in China. Currently, though, it is not able to guarantee that HMA will function in China.

Tražite li novo Pregled VPNHub-a?

Nema curenja s ovom VPN uslugom

Isprobali smo sve glavne web lokacije za identifikaciju curenja - Virustotal, IPLeak.net, test propuštanja Perfect-Privacy DNS, IPX.ac, Browserleaks.com Nijedna web lokacija nije pronašla curenje tijekom korištenja VPNhub-a.

Kompatibilan s glavnim platformama

Poslužitelji uključuju - Australiju, Belgiju, Brazil, Kanadu, Dansku, Francusku, Njemačku, Mađarsku, Italiju, Japan, Koreju, Nizozemsku, Poljsku, Singapur, Španjolsku, Švedsku, Veliku Britaniju i SAD.

VPNhub nudi dvije vrste šifriranja i protokola.

UDP

  • Dobili smo nadu u vezi s isplatama kad smo ih o ovom pitanju pitali izravno e-poštom.

Zašto biste ikada riskirali koristiti skupu i neispravnu tvrtku umjesto bolje dostupnih rješenja, to jednostavno nema smisla iz bilo kojeg kuta.

Who and what is Avast Secureline VPN?

Avast SecureLine VPN is a VPN service provided by cybersecurity company Avast. Avast offers several other cybersecurity products, including anti-virus software. The VPN has servers in 55 locations in 34 countries. The company doesn’t disclose the exact number of VPN servers in the network. Avast SecureLine VPN promises to mask your IP address, hide your online activity from spying eyes, and help you access blocked streaming content on services like Netflix ili Kodi

  • I tested Avast SecureLine VPN to find out if the VPN performs as well as it promises. I found some different pros and cons that I will discuss in more detail below. Highlights include Avast SecureLine VPN’s streaming services, speed, and user experience. It’s also a good choice for unblocking major Netflix libraries, as well as other streaming platforms.
  • Downsides include the company’s logging policy, the lack of responsive customer service, and the price point. Despite being one of the most expensive VPN providers out there, I decided to give them a try.

Avast Secureline offers both free (7-day trial) and paid versions. They use strong 256-bit AES encryption and you can choose from OpenVPN, IPSec & IKEv2 protocols. Their server speeds are top of the line, they even landed in the top 10 of our fastest reviewed VPNs, but still fall behind the top providers like Express VPN i Nord VPN.

Where is Avast VPN located?

Avast Secureline was launched in 2014 in Prague, Czech Republic. Although the company, Avast, has been around for a while – since 1988. The VPN service supports the following devices and operating systems:

  • PC
  • Mac
  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Android
  • Android TV

Avast SecureLine works on up to five devices and features no bandwidth limits. As for TOR, customer support mentioned the VPN is not compatible with it. It’s worth mentioning that Avast provides ONLY 55 servers in 34 countries. That’s a really low number of total servers compared to other VPN providers, like NordVPN and ExpressVPN, that both have over 3,000 servers. The only countries that Avast has more than one server location are Canada (two cities), Germany (two cities), Russia (two cities), Spain (two cities), the United Kingdom (two cities), and the United States (16 cities).

  • Avast SecureLine does offer a kill switch, which is perfect for protecting your privacy if your connection is ever lost. Kill switches are a critical safeguard or backup plan. When they detect your network connection is about to terminate, they’ll automatically kill your current session, too.
  • That helps to keep whatever you were doing private and away from prying eyes. If purchased alongside your subscription, their MultiDevice service allows up to 5 simultaneous conncetions.

Is The Speed Of Avast VPN As Fast As They Promise?

Avast brags on their homepage about how fast their VPN service is. So now it’s time to put them to the test – literally! I ran speed tests of their service on servers in the US and the Netherlands to see how they stack up against the competition. Here are our results with Avast VPN:

US Server

  • Ping: 113 ms
  • Download: 67.94 Mbps
  • Upload: 13.67 Mbps

Netherlands Server

  • Ping: 34 ms
  • Download: 65.97 Mbps
  • Upload: 39.44 Mbps

These are pretty fast speeds in comparison to some other VPNs. They’re not the fastest, but not the slowest, either.

Well Encrypted and Secure

  • AES-256 encryption
  • Kill-Switch
  • DNS leak protection

Avast SecureLine offers two protocols, IPSec and OpenVPN on UDP with AES 256-bit encryption. This is military-grade encryption. The “256” number refers to the encryption strength. The short story is that 256-bit is the best in the business right now. It’s considered virtually ‘brute-force proof’ by many of the top government agencies and security professionals around the world. Avast SecureLine also offers DNS leak protection. This handy little feature makes sure that none of your personal data might ‘leak’ outside the VPN connection without you realizing it, divulging your browsing activity or true physical location.

Torrenting Is Allowed

It appears that torrent downloads and P2P are allowed with this Torrenting VPN. According to the Avast VPN FAQ page: SecureLine VPN allows peer-to-peer connections through our data center locations listed below.

  • Prague, Czech Republic
  • Frankfurt, Germany
  • Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • New York City, New York
  • Miami, Florida
  • Seattle, Washington
  • London, United Kingdom
  • Paris, France

No Logs Policy

Avast SecureLine claims that they keep no data logs of your online activity. However, they do store connection logs, which show the time you connect or disconnect to a server, how long you are connected, and how much bandwidth you use. Avast claims that this information is only collected for “diagnostic purposes and to prevent abuse of the VPN connection.”

  • But, when you read Avast’s privacy policy, you’ll find that they offer links to third-party sites such as Twitter or Facebook. Overall, I’m a fan of Avast’s security. Just be aware that some logging, like most other VPN services, is happening in the background.

Fast Customer Support At Their Customer Service

Avast Secureline uses a ticketing system and has a number you can call for a free diagnosis. They also offer a knowledge base full of help articles, tons of support pages, and a forum. Since the knowledge base is searchable, users can easily find what they need by typing in a few basic keywords. That being said, Avast doesn’t offer a live chat support option and I wasn’t able to find a customer support email for the company.

  • They do, however, have a Twitter account where users can send in direct messages. I sent one in to test out how responsive their social support is. More than three hours later, I still hadn’t heard back. The good news is that if you need support fast, Avast’s phone support is available 24/7.
  • The question, of course, is how truly fast was it? I called in to see if it was an automated service or if I would actually receive help from an actual human. Initially, there is an automated message that directs to select a number so that Avast can direct your call to the right person.

This is a huge step above live chat, in my opinion, because you have the option of hearing a live person’s voice for assistance. I’ve tested “live” chats on numerous VPNs and sometimes it took them hours to get back to me. No live chat or email options were disappointing. The Twitter alternative was interesting, but so far has proved to be too slow. However, they saved it in the end with a quick, responsive call center.

Great Usability on Both Desktop and Mobile With AvastVPN

Avast’s VPN software is surprisingly sleek and simple. All it takes to connect to one of Avast’s servers to hide your IP address is the click of a button. And changing your location is as easy as selecting a country off of the server list inside of the user interface. There’s even a “Preferences” menu where you can customize Avast to better suit your needs. For example, you can set it to automatically connect every time your computer starts up. That way, you’re always protected.

  1. Avast also offers a mobile app that is available for both iPhone and Android. The usability of the mobile app is just as sophisticated and simple as using the service on a PC or Mac. Much like the desktop interface, all it takes to connect to a server is just one tap.
  2. And changing server locations takes little to no time at all. However, the free mobile trial requires users to hand over their credit card information to get started, unlike the desktop version. So if you’re only looking for an initial test drive of the service, you might want to do it on your good old fashioned desktop instead of mobile.

We Found No Leaks On This VPN Service With Testing

VPN’s create a secure tunnel around your internet connection. This encrypts your traffic so no one can bust inside. But more importantly, it creates a seal around your IP address and hides your true location. That way, no government agency can get you in trouble for looking at what you’re looking at while sitting where you’re sitting.

  1. Unfortunately, these connections aren’t always as secure as they seem to be. For example, a DNS or WebRTC leak can cause your IP to be revealed without you even realizing it. The good news is that we found the Avast Secureline connection to be leak-free.

Good for streaming, but a little basic for the price. With its fast speeds and ability to access popular streaming platforms, Avast SecureLine VPN is a good choice for streaming. The VPN also covers the basics when it comes to security. However, the price is a little high for a VPN that doesn’t include many advanced features. The company’s customer service also could be better.

buy avast vpns

Avast SecureLine Cons

It’s also important to note that Avast SecureLine can’t be set up on routers to provide additional protection. This VPN appears to be basic protection for PC and mobile devices only. While this won’t be a big deal for most users, it’s something to keep in mind. Installing a VPN on a router is a great way to protect all of the devices in your house without having to remember to sign in every time you log on. It’s especially useful if you want to protect gaming consoles, IoT devices, smart TVs, and lots of phones and tablets. This isn’t a deal breaker, but we’d prefer the possibility of using Avast with a router.

Ne radi s Netflixom

There’s always an ongoing battle between VPNs and Netflix—and Avast is losing the battle at the moment. Netflix knows when you’re using an Avast connection, and won’t let you stream movies or shows. Of course, it’s possible that this could change. VPNs are always working to stay ahead of Netflix’s blocking capabilities. Netflix VPN streaming error. But for the moment, you’ll need to use a different VPN if you want to watch Netflix.

Based In Czech Republic With Bad Jurisdiction

Avast is based in the Czech Republic. While the country isn’t part of any of the major intelligence-sharing agreements that we discuss on a regular basis, it does cooperate with the Five Eyes agreement countries. This doesn’t mean that Avast will be sharing your data with intelligence agencies in the US and the UK.

  • But the fact that the Czech Republic is friendly with these countries and willing to cooperate on intelligence sharing makes some people nervous. We don’t have any evidence that Avast has been sharing data with Five Eyes countries. But we aren’t especially comforted by the Czech Republic’s cooperation with them.

Avast SecureLine Pricing

Rather than offering the standard one-month, three-month, six-month, or year package like almost every other VPN service I’ve reviewed, Avast’s pricing is based on the device you want to use it on. Each package is the same as far as access to features go, though.

  • Access to 5 devices is $79.99 per year.
  • This comes out to $6.67 per month or about $16 per year for each device. This plan appears to be the best value.
  • Access to Avast SecureLine for your PC or Mac is $59.99 per year. This comes out to about $5 per month for access to only one device.
  • Access to this VPN for Android, iPhone, or iPad is $19.99 per year. This plan comes out to be $1.67 per month for access to one mobile device.

One of the great things about Avast SecureLine is that they offer a free 7-day trial with no strings attached. You don’t have to enter your payment information to have full access to Avast SecureLine to decide if you want to use it. The payment options, much like the pricing, are a bit lacking in comparison to other competitors who offer other payment methods such as Bitcoin, Perfect Money, etc.

Right now you can pay via:

  • Credit Card
  • PayPal

Avast’s refund policy reveals a standard 30-day money-back guarantee if you purchase through their “online retail stores” or through Google Play. If you go through a reseller or iTunes, for example, you’ll have to go back to them for refunds (and the terms might differ). The only potential catch with this refund comes down to your VPN usage during the thirty-day period. If you upload/download over 10GB of data, or if you connect over 100 times, you will not be eligible for a refund. So make sure you don’t over-use the service during that initial month.

Do We Recommend Avast Secureline?

After reviewing all of the evidence, I don’t recommend using Avast’s VPN service. The company provides a reasonably good free antivirus solution. Their VPN is incredibly easy to use. And the call-in customer service option was great! But in the end, there are just too many issues to overlook. The fact that it doesn’t work with Netflix is a big one. Not everyone wants to stream over a VPN, but it’s a very common use for private networks.

Czech jurisdiction, the lack of router support, and pricing that’s easy to beat all combine to make this a VPN that’s not at the top of my list. Avast Secureline is certainly not a bad VPN. It’s very fast, supports torrenting, and only keeps connection logs and is way better then free VPN services ili cheapest VPN service on the market.

And we found that the connection was leak free for the most part. But you can get those features without paying as much, and it’s easy to find a VPN that supports Netflix. All in all, Avast isn’t a bad choice, but it’s certainly not the best one compared to other players such as ExpressVPNSurfshark ili NordVPN.

  •
  • Avast SecureLine VPN uses the protocols OpenVPN (UDP), IPSec and IKEv2, depending on the operating system you use.
  • Avast SecureLine’s logging policy is problematic: IP addresses are partially stored, as is much other information.
  • Avast SecureLine does not track users’ browser activity and DNS requests.
  • The browser data of free Avast users has been sold to third parties in the past.
  • Avast SecureLine has a built-in kill switch.
  • To create an account, Avast SecureLine requires an email address and username.

Does Avast SecureLine VPN Have an Ad Blocker?

No, Avast SecureLine VPN does not include an ad blocker in the VPN service.

Does Avast SecureLine VPN Work in China?

The company doesn’t make any promises that the VPN will work in China. China has been cracking down on VPN use in recent years. This has made it more difficult for providers to guarantee that their VPNs will work in China. Avast SecureLine VPN uses an OpenVPN protocol, which is often easily detected and blocked by the Great Firewall of China. Avast SecureLine VPN also doesn’t come with any advanced obfuscation features, which are designed to disguise your VPN activity to make it look more like regular traffic. You may want to look elsewhere if you need a VPN specifically for use in China.

Does Avast SecureLine VPN Have a Free Version?

No, but it has a 7-day free trial. You do not need to create an account or enter a credit card number to take advantage of the trial.

Avast SecureLine VPN’s Refund Policy

Avast SecureLine VPN subscriptions come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can receive a full refund as long as you request it within 30 days of purchasing a subscription. Requesting a refund is easy. There is a convenient refund request form available on the company website that only takes a minute or two to fill out.

Is Avast SecureLine VPN Compatible with My Device?

Avast SecureLine VPN offers dedicated apps for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS devices. You can also install the VPN as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. The company doesn’t provide any manual configuration files, so you won’t be able to install the VPN on other devices. The VPN supports up to five simultaneous device connections with each account.

Cyberghost VPN (2021) Review guide

Mi na Globalwatchonline.com tested and tried all different providers for you, read our comprehensive CyberGhost VPN review and learn everything about this service, we are sure that once you’re done reading you will know if this provider suits you.

Who and what is CyberGhost ?

CyberGhost is a popular VPN provider, but does it live up the hype? CyberGhost is a Romanian-based VPN provider. They’ve been around for seven years, were acquired just a few years back, and have continued to grow into one of the largest VPN providers. They pack all of the features you’d come to expect, such as AES 256-bit encryption and OpenVPN (along with other optional tunneling protocols like IPSec). Their pricing structure is also quite cheap, very similar to NordVPN.

  • When I read that CyberGhost had been bought out by Kape a company that used to be infamous for bundling adware into its downloads  alarm bells started ringing.
  • I’ve recommended CyberGhost in the past as a trustworthy and easy-to-use VPN that suits beginners. But with its new ownership, I wondered if CyberGhost is even safe to use anymore. I did a deep dive into CyberGhost’s ownership, privacy policy, and security measures to determine whether it’s secure enough to recommend.

CyberGhost’s VPN has strong encryption and is very user-friendly and fast and belongs to one of the best VPN providers right now. Fortunately, a subscription is not expensive. In addition, CyberGhost has a 45-day not-good-money-back guarantee on its longer subscriptions. This is the longest cooling-off period of any commercial VPN service we have tested. Installing CyberGhost VPN is easy, and you can use the service on as many as seven devices simultaneously. Handy if you want a VPN on your laptop, Android smartphone, iPhone, Smart TV, Chromecast as well as Amazon Fire TV stick or a Macbook.

Located in Romania for privacy

Founded in 2011 and operated by a 55-person team located in Bucharest, Romania, CyberGhost (recently acquired by Robert Knapp and Crossrider Limited) currently boasts over 15-million users, which is an admittedly-impressive statistic. This also means that they are outside 14 Eyes, too, meaning your data (if they had any) wouldn’t be shared with intelligence agencies from other countries around the world.

All Essential Features Available

  • Hiding IP: Yes
  • Kill-switch: Yes
  • Max devices: 7
  • Total servers: 3,999 (last verified on 24th of July, 2019)
  • Total countries: 60 (last verified on 24th of July, 2019)

CyberGhost is VPN software that hides your IP, encrypts and anonymizes your Internet activity, as well as keeps you secure whenever you’re using Wi-Fi. Their network spans 60 different countries and contains a whopping 3,999 server locations across the United States, European Union, UK, and Asia (although their presence in Asia is admittedly sparse with only a handful of servers in Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore). Their VPN service is compatible with a lot of devices, including:

  • Windows
  • Android
  • Mac
  • iOS
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • fireTV

If you know what you are doing, CyberGhost also allows their users to set up a custom connection with their Linux devices or routers (yes, you can connect them to your router). In addition, CyberGhost supports all major protocols including OpenVPN, L2TP, and IPSec. So you’re looking at best-in-class, AES-256 encryption standards to keep all of your devices safe and secure.

Strict No-Logging Policy

Mnogi davatelji usluga VPN -a oglašavaju "nulto bilježenje".

Nisu otkrivena curenja

There’s a lot to love about CyberGhost. If you were to make a checklist of everything you want out of a VPN, CyberGhost has ALL of them. No info is logged. Their Romanian jurisdiction protects users. Netflix works. As does torrenting. It’s even compatible with TOR and other proxy services. When we tried this program out, we loved it. There’s a reason it’s listed as number seven on our list of the top VPNs in the world.

  • The cherry on top of an already-impressive sundae of awesomeness is the fact that this is an airtight leak-free system. We put CyberGhost through the ringer on several occasions and we found that our original IP was completely protected. We also ran a test on CyberGhost’s installation software, to make sure it wasn’t sneaking any viruses onto our system. Thankfully, it too was completely clean.

Great User Experience and Easy Installation

CyberGhost’s ease of use is excellent. It took me a grand total of about 5 minutes to install, launch, and use CyberGhost on my Windows device. And based on feedback from other users, this experience is pretty consistent regardless of the device you are using. You can sign up for an account without having to pay for anything upfront. Once you do, you’ll be taken to a dashboard like the one pictured below:

  1. Note that in the upper left-hand corner it says “inactive.” That means no CyberGhost subscription has been purchased. To get started, click on the yellow button on the right marked “Get CyberGhost VPN.” This is where you select the subscription and term to get started. (We’ll explore these pricing plans in more detail towards the end of this review.) After selecting a plan, it will take you to the payment options selection menu:
  2. You can use a credit card, PayPal, or, if you want a fully anonymous experience, go for Bitcoin. Next, you’ll see one more screen confirming all of your information. Click on the green button on the right-hand side that says “Buy Now” to get going. The software will start downloading immediately.
  3. I had no issues whatsoever, and it was successfully installed on my computer in under one minute. Once I entered my username and password, the system logged me in, but I was not yet connected to the service.
  4. You can choose a server from the drop-down list on the bottom, or allow CyberGhost to automatically connect you with its best server location. This allows you to be surfing anonymously in just a few seconds. If you want to switch servers, just click on the yellow arrow in the lower left-hand corner.

Does Cyberghost work well with torrenting?

That will open up a server menu like this: From there, you can select a new server from the full list or zero-in on servers that are specifically designed for VPN torrenting and streaming. The layout of the app is crisp and clean. Things are so clearly spelled out that even your grandparents could use it. CyberGhost even has a feature that allows users to automatically launch a secured private browser with only the click of a button. A great experience overall.

Compatible with TOR and almost all most other proxies

The Orion Router (or TOR) is an anonymous network that relays your data through various servers so it’s virtually impossible to see who you are or where you’re from. Depending on the country from which you are surfing, the ability to layer your VPN with the TOR network can, quite literally, be a lifesaver. Fortunately, CyberGhost VPN is TOR compatible. This allows users to get as close to total anonymity as possible and is a huge bonus for any VPN users located in countries with strict censorship laws.

Cyberghost also works with Netflix

While many VPNs shy away from actively promoting the ability to torrent/P2P and use Netflix on their servers (hint: TunnelBear), CyberGhost is not among them. Not only does CyberGhost allow torrenting, but it’s also one of their main selling points. Once you’ve launched CyberGhost, you can click on the yellow servers menu on the left of the client: That will open the full server menu.

  • Once there, you’ll note that on the left-hand side there is an option labeled “For Torrenting.” Click on that to see all of CyberGhost’s P2P optimized servers: Double click on the server you want to use, and torrent to your heart’s delight. Much to their credit, CyberGhost has done everything in their power to make torrenting easy and seamless.

Netflix Unblocking Feature

Cyberghost has dedicated a unique Netflix VPN streaming server that keeps changing its IP address whenever Netflix tries to crack it down. I used it and it worked. I also confirmed that by having a quick chat with their customer representative: First, I pulled up CyberGhost’s streaming servers and looked for those that were optimized for Netflix: To make life easier, if you type “Netflix” into the search bar, it will find those four servers for you and you won’t have to go looking through the entire list:

The first two servers I checked were the United Kingdom and United States. Both worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I was less successful with the other two. Netflix is constantly upping its game in its quest to block VPNs, but I was happy to see that at least half of these servers were still functional. Cyberghost servers unblocking Netflix:

  • Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo
  • Ujedinjene države

Cyberghost servers blocked by Netflix:

  • Germany
  • France

Seven Device Connection Limit

CyberGhost used to only offer a one-device connection limit, even for some premium users, prior to their purchase by Robert Knapp and Crossrider Limited. Thankfully, that was one of the first positive changes they made.

  • Most of the VPNs we’ve reviewed will allow at least three simultaneous. Initially, CyberGhost bumped up their connection number to five, which was a huge improvement. But we’re happy to report that, as of September of 2018, CyberGhost has increased their limit even further to seven devices — regardless of the plan that you are using. This is a welcomed improvement that opens up many doors for the average user.

Live Chat Customer Service

Good customer service is hard to find in the VPN world. It shouldn’t be. It’s not necessarily that difficult or anything. But the vast majority are slow, or terrible or both. So, when one actually crosses that line into excellence, it’s worth heaping hefty loads of praise upon them. Buckle up, because I’m about to start heaping. When we first reviewed CyberGhost, it’s fair to say that we weren’t huge fans of their customer support system. It was glitchy and borderline unusable. We gave them some tough, but fair criticism.

  • Well, it looks like they were listening. CyberGhost has made some recent advancements in this field and it pays off in droves. For starters, they’ve added live chat. Not like takes-one-hour-to-respond live chat. But fast, instantaneous messaging. Anyone needing help needs to just click on the chat box in the lower right-hand corner of their screen. Clicking there opens up the chat box, where you enter your name, email address, and topic.

The service connects quickly. There is a virtual queue, but I was in the first position instantly. A CyberGhost representative quickly came onto the service and we started talking. I asked about torrenting services and which servers TOR could be used on:

The response was speedy and informative. No copy-and-paste answer like we’ve received from a few others. I even tried tripping them up, asking about a bunch of different services in sequence, like unblocking Netflix streaming. The customer service handled each deftly. When we finished, he said goodbye and disconnected. Then, I immediately got an email from CyberGhost upon disconnecting with a full transcript of the chat session. There’s nothing to criticize here. It was an epic home run. Bravo, CyberGhost. You’re on a different level here.

CyberGhost Cons

As with any product on the market, you have to look up the company behind a VPN so you know just what to expect. CyberGhost was sold to Kape Technologies (formerly known as Crossrider Plc), an Isreali based ad tech company infamous for creating and distributing Malware. It didn’t take me long to find articles warning the public about the malware still being spread by Kape Technologies. Malwarebytes even posted an article on how to remove a Crossrider malware. Clearly, you can’t trust this company with your data.

This irony was not lost on CyberGhost itself. After the buyout, CyberGhost’s CEO himself admitted that both companies had opposing goals. CyberGhost seeks to protect user data and privacy as a VPN. Crossrider seeks to gain user data to make money as an ad tech company. Ironic, right?

I also found out that the re-branding from Crossrider to Kape Technologies was actually a very sneaky move. Kape CEO Ido Erlichman actually admitted that the decision to re-brand was due to “the strong association to the past activities of the company”. Long story short, CyberGhost’s parent company can’t be trusted and they know it.

Not the Fastest VPN

Whenever you are in the market for a ‘Budget VPN’ you can and should expect to suffer through some slower download and upload times. Here’s our benchmark (without VPN connection): Unfortunately for CyberGhost, unless you are using a free VPN service, you should never have to deal with speeds that are this slow, and that is the ultimate downside of Cyberghost, they definately don’t belong to the most fast VPN’s in 2021.

US Server (New York)

  • Ping: 189ms
  • Download: 18.41 Mbps
  • Upload: 7.12 Mbps

EU Server (Amsterdam)

  • Ping: 41ms
  • Download: 51.10 Mbps
  • Upload: 21.10 Mbps

Asia Server (Hong Kong)

  • Ping: 299ms
  • Download: 4.00 Mbps
  • Upload: 4.07 Mbps

UK Server (London)

  • Ping: 69ms
  • Download: 5.63 Mbps
  • Upload: 15.65 Mbps

In short, while CyberGhost speeds are nothing to brag about. They’re surely faster than some other paid VPNs such as Surfshark. But our recommended ExpressVPN is nearly 2x times faster! When it comes to speed, they are ranked somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Third-Party Reviews From The History Aren’t Great

I decided to dig through some of the recent reviews on Reddit and Quora to make sure we were just seeing a one-sided experience. According to most sources (who were not motivated by a handsome commissions check), my experience was pretty standard. There were some reviews that had a more positive outlook on CyberGhost’s services, however, the majority of them were clearly submitted by individuals with an obvious lack of experience with VPN providers.

Alleged Security Concerns

The final problem that I found with CyberGhost is an alleged security concern that has popped up since early 2016. While there has been a significant amount of controversy surrounding CyberGhost’s root certificates and the possibility that their “No Logging” policy is not actually upheld, so far, my findings on this topic have been inconclusive.

  • Most of the issues that have surfaced were quickly resolved or explained away by the CyberGhost team. While I don’t have any real reasons to suspect CyberGhost of foul play or believe that there have been any breaches in their privacy agreement, there were simply too many allegations to let this particular point slide.

CyberGhost cijene

CyberGhost offers a true month-to-month plan for $12.99.month. The best way to save, though, is to commit to one of their long-term options. Their 3 years package cost is ultra-low: $2.50/month for three-year commitment. This places them among the cheapest options in the marketplace.

  • Monthly: $12.99 per month ($155.88 per year)
  • 1 Year: $5.99 per month ($71.88 per year)
  • 3 Years: $2.75 per month ($99 every 3 years)

They also offer a wide array of payment methods. You get the standard debit and credit options, PayPal, and BitPay, and cash, too. While this might be a bit extreme for most users, this feature can come in handy for users who are concerned about the anonymity of their transaction. (For example, individuals purchasing CyberGhost in a country with censorship laws and VPN restrictions.) CyberGhost’s money-back guarantee is pretty self-explanatory, too.

Money Back Guarantee from Cyberghost

You have 45 days after signup to terminate and get your money back if you choose plans longer than a year, and 14 days if you choose the monthly option. It’s a “no questions asked” policy for all their products. So we love that they stand behind what they’re selling. They’ll even stick to this when your “ISP is blocking VPN connections,” for example. So it’s not even their fault that the VPN isn’t working for you. They’ll still provide the refund.

You can get a refund by going through CyberGhost.com (if that’s where your purchase was made). Otherwise, go back to the individual reseller if you used one of them (like Digital River/Shareit). Understandably, they don’t have any control over reseller transactions, so they should be able to help you directly. You might just want to clarify if they’re matching CyberGhost’s “no questions asked,” or if they have their own refund policy that overrides it.

  • Nema zapisivanja: Da.
  • Ease of the VPN software: Singing up and using the app is fairly simple and straightforward.
  • Hidden fees & clauses: None.
  • Upsells: Nema upsells.
  • Instant access after payment: Yes.

  • Jurisdiction: Romania.

Do We Recommend CyberGhost?

Yes. To be honest, we weren’t as high on this service just a few months ago. But it seems that in the past few months, CyberGhost has turned things around. They responded to constructive feedback and have completely turned some aspects around. The live chat and customer service experience we had was like night and day from before. CyberGhost was always a solid VPN choice. It’s strict no-logging policy and Romanian jurisdiction keep your information safe and secure like other services as Private Internet Access i IPVanish.

If provides all of the essential functions of a VPN with a great user experience. Plus, it’s a leak-free system that works with Netflix, TOR, and torrenting services. Upping their connections to seven simultaneous devices was a breath of fresh air, too. There are a few question marks around their historical performance. Some users have had negative experiences. There might be some alleged security concerns.

  • If you ever have trouble accessing your favorite service, its support staff is super helpful and can be reached 24/7.
  • When it comes to security, it stands out from other VPNs with its NoSpy servers. It also protects your data with military-grade encryption and features like its automatic kill switch. Independent audits, transparency reports, and a strong privacy policy also let you know CyberGhost can be trusted with your data.
  • It does have a few downsides. Even with its gaming servers, it’s not a great VPN for online competitive play, and it doesn’t work in restrictive countries like China.

Can I use CyberGhost for free?

Yes! CyberGhost offers a 24 hour free trial period. However, 24 hours isn’t enough time to fully get to know a VPN service because performance varies from day to day. Another option is to test CyberGhost out for a longer period (it comes with a money-back guarantee). You can try it out risk-free for 45 days and claim a full refund if you’re not satisfied. I tested out its money-back guarantee myself and it was quick and easy to get my money back.

Keep in mind, you have to choose the 6-month plan (or longer) to qualify. You only get 14 days with the 1-month plan. I tested the refund policy myself and it was quick and easy. You can also use its free (but very limited) browser extensions for Chrome or Firefox. It only lets you use servers in Germany, the US, the Netherlands, and Romania. But it only keeps your data safe within the browser, so your whole device won’t be protected.

Does CyberGhost unblock Netflix?

Yes, CyberGhost works with Netflix. During my tests, I was able to unblock Netflix US and several other popular Netflix libraries, including the UK, Australia, Japan, and Canada. CyberGhost even works with other local Netflix regions like the Netherlands and Spain. If you’re interested in other popular streaming platforms, I could also watch Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and more than 30 others using its streaming optimized servers.

Is CyberGhost safe?

Yes, CyberGhost is safe to use. It has high-end security features designed to protect your safety and privacy. Its privacy policy ensures that it never stores any of your essential data. Plus, its parent company owns Zenmate and Private Internet Access as well, all respected VPNs that respect customer privacy. These features include the highest level of encryption, the most advanced security protocols, an automatic kill switch, IP and DNS leak protection, WiFi protection, and HTTPS Protection. There are also built-in blockers for malicious websites, trackers, and ads. On top of that, I found no leaks when I performed leak tests on 15 different servers.

How many devices can I connect with CyberGhost?

You get 7 simultaneous connections with your CyberGhost subscription. But if you install the app on your router, you can get unlimited simultaneous connections for all devices connected to the internet through that router.

Can CyberGhost’s ownership be trusted?

Yes. I read through CyberGhost’s current privacy policy and it is committed to protecting your online privacy. Even though its parent company, Kape Technologies, was involved in prior controversies, it’s now quite reputable.

Kape Technologies was previously known as Crossrider, a mobile ad development company that got a bad reputation for bundling adware into its downloads. However, Kape Technologies is now essentially a different company from Crossrider. It no longer works in online ads and has moved into VPNs instead. It also owns Private Internet Access and Zenmate.
